Mavy Legaspi and Kyline Alcantara shared the advantages of having a podcast channel for showbiz and non-showbiz personalities alike. They also noted how the platform has been an instrument for them to discover more of each other and connect with their fans.
“Iba kasi talaga yung reach ng isang podcast,” Mavy told The STAR during a Spotify event held recently at Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City. “When it comes to a celebrity, mas nakikita nila yung kung ano talaga sila off-cam, kung ano talaga sila as a person, as a friend, as a co-worker, as a citizen of the country.”
“So lahat yun makikita talaga yun sa isang podcast and that’s very important for us because we want to share na, yes we are celebrities, we are public figures but at the end of the day, we can be your friends also. Tao lang din kami. We go through what you go through. Pinakikita lang namin na parehas lang yung playing field nating lahat,” he added.
Kyline likewise urged Filipino celebrities and non-celebrities to start podcasting and take advantage of the platform. “Kasi lahat tayo may sari-sarili tayong mga fans and for sure lahat tayo may pinagdadaanan. We are encouraging also, yung mga hindi lang mga artista, yung mga ordinaryong Pilipino kasi lahat naman tayo may sarili tayo talagang boses and especially, that’s the power of social media right now. Hindi lang public figures or celebrities ang merong platforms pero lahat tayo mapa-artista man, mapa hindi man artista, lahat tayo may boses na ngayon and that’s really, really important.”
Through their Spotify podcast MavLine on Me, the Kapuso stars got to really know each other, said Mavy. “At the same time, yung mga viewers and listeners, they’re getting to know us also.”
The topic that they discussed would usually start in a car ride and they would continue it on their podcast. “Dun namin nakikita sa isa’t isa na, ‘O ‘pag mga ganung mga problema, ganun pala yung mga atake nito sa isang problema or yan pala siya mag-advise sa isang problema na ‘to or sa isang topic,” shared Mavy.
“Mavy is great in handling conversation” commented Kyline. “Like may humor and then kaya niya maging serious. Siguro yun yung hinahanap ko sa isang kausap na hindi puro seryoso, na hindi puro biro lang lahat. Like may balance na ganun.”
Mavy and Kyline’s dynamics in real life are the same as in the podcast. “Kung paano kami mag-usap sa podcast ganun din talaga kami sa personal,” stated Kyline. “Like in all honesty ganun talaga kami. Pero 90 percent nilalagay ko sa podcast. But there are some topics na kami lang dalawa yung nakakaalam but malay mo naman in the future mapag-usapan namin. But ganun kami mag-discuss ng bagay-bagay. Ganun kami mag-he said, she said.”
When asked to describe each other as onscreen partners, Mavy said Kyline is “understanding” while the former is “very talkative” in a good way. Kyline said of Mavy, “Talkative siya eh and yung pagiging talkative niya ang sarap pakinggan kasi ang dami kong natutunan actually at ang dami ko pang matutunan for sure. In all honesty, mukha lang ako yung madaldal pero mas madaldal siya (laughs). And he speaks so slow that’s why yung conversation mas humahaba.”
The two are set to star in GMA Network’s adaptation of Wattpad’s Luv Is: Love at First Read slated for release in June next year. They will portray the lead roles Kudos and Angelica/Abby.
