SB19 brings WYAT world tour home
SB19, composed of Ken, Justin, Josh, Pablo and Stell, will cap their WYAT Tour with a homecoming concert on Dec. 18 at the Araneta Coliseum.

MANILA, Philippines — A few days before SB19’s WYAT Homecoming Concert on Dec. 18 at the Araneta Coliseum, the P-pop act dropped a new track called Nyebe, “an emotional ballad that envelopes listeners with warmth, longing, and sadness.”

The ditty drew inspiration from gospel music, as detailed by the group’s leader Pablo during a media conference last Monday at the Novotel Manila. “Every time we release (a song), we try to produce a different sound. For Nyebe, parang kumuha siya ng inspiration from gospel music, which is very calming and hopeful,” he said.

Pablo penned the single two years ago, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. “I wrote it before Christmas. At that time, lahat may privilege or may moment na i-enjoy kung ano man yung parang sinasabi nga nila na Pasko. Dapat ‘pag Pasko, fun, kasama mo yung family, but others were working abroad, full of uncertainties because the pandemic was spreading.”

“We don’t know what will happen. Or, if they can still go home. And that uncertainty and hopelessness, kumbaga mapapalitan siya ng hope,” he continued. “I learn to accept our current situation, nasa ganito yung nararamdaman ko pero ano yung pwede kong gawin, which is hope and pray that every na matatapos ang lahat. Like what I said in the lyrics, balang araw, matutunaw din lahat ng nyebe.”

During the media event, the group performed the soulful Nyebe with opening verse, “Bakit ba ‘di ko namalayang dumadampi na sa’king mukha? Lamig na mabigat pa sa dala/Kahit papalapit na ang inaabangan nila/Na noo’y pinatibok ang puso kong ngayo’y nagyelo na.”

Moreover, Pablo divulged that the band will release a new album titled Pagtatag and another world tour will follow. “It’s basically spreading the foundation (of the group). The whole album came from the ideas of all the members. Definitely, different flavor sa isang album na pinagsama-sama. New experience for us as well,” he teased details about the upcoming album.

After performing abroad (United States, United Arab Emirates and Singapore), the quintet will culminate their WYAT Tour in Manila this Sunday.

Ken shared that the most memorable place for him during their tour was Dubai because of the sand dunes.

He shared, “Sobrang vast yung desert. Sobrang sarap tingnan nakaka-relax and na-experience din namin mag-drive ng ATV. That was my first time. It was such a great experience na makapunta dun though second na namin pumunta dun. Sobrang happy.”

For Pablo, it’s their stay in New York City because it was his first time to watch a Broadway show there. He watched the musical Wicked, based on a social media post. “It was such an amazing (show). The whole production sobrang na-amaze po ako. Actually, start pa lang, umiiyak na ako kasi parang nafi-feel ko yung passion talaga ng nagpe-perform on stage and it’s something that I share or I can relate to.”

On the other hand, Stell considered visiting Los Angeles (L.A.) as his unforgettable experience. “Sobrang chill. Parang nasabi ko po na napagod kami sa ilang city, dun po talaga sa L.A. kahit papano ay nakapag-relax po kami. To be honest, I super enjoyed yung sinamahan ako ng team namin sa Cabazon Outlet. Nag-window shopping lang naman po.”

For Josh, L.A. and San Francisco were his favorite places from the tour. “My family was there to join me. I got to experience many moments with them. And of course, our visit to Santa Monica. Sobrang ganda kasi dun.”

Meanwhile, Justin enjoyed his “futuristic experience” in the neighboring country of Singapore. He gushed, “Medyo advanced sila dun. Mga technology nila dun and what-not. And of course, sinama ko rin po yung family ko during our tour in SG.”

Meanwhile, asked what to expect from their upcoming show, Stell said that they want this to be a “sharing experience” of their WYAT Tour. “Parang story-telling (opportunity) din na parang (we can share) kung ano yung exact feeling na na-feel namin during the tour itself. And of course, yung mga performances meron nga yung madadagdag na hindi naman namin pwedeng sabihin ngayon.”

“Kasi gusto namin ma-feel yung parang… fan meeting (of A’TIN, SB19 fandom), gathering talaga yung gusto naming iparating. Pero siyempre mas marami yung performances,” he concluded.

SB19 debuted in October 2018 with their viral single Go Up. They made OPM history as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian act to be nominated at the Billboard Music Awards for the Top Social Artist category. They also became the first Southeast Asian artist to break into the Top 10 of Billboard Social 50 weekly and year-end charts.
