Nadine Lustre’s love advice: Don’t look for it, don’t give your all
MANILA, Philippines — Nadine Lustre recently shared the real story behind how she ended up in Siargao over the pandemic.
The actress has been shuttling between Manila and the surfing island destination since last year, and it all started with her manifesting it on paper.
She recalled she was in a session with her life coach and was made to answer a questionnaire that asked where she saw herself two years from now.
“The story of (how I came to) Siargao, which was medyo amazing din, was because there was one time I had a session with (my life coach) Tita Cindy. It was more for manifesting naman and she asked me to write on a piece of paper and the first question was where do you see yourself in two years,” she recently told The STAR while talking about how she got through the pandemic.
“Nilagay ko somewhere near the ocean and the mountains. And then cut to two months after, I found myself in Siargao, my god, sabi ko, I think this is it.
“I think I wanna keep coming back here or at least, live here. As soon as we got there, (I remember telling myself), I feel different. It was my first time to travel since the whole lockdown. I don’t know but I just feel good here, I might just keep coming back,” she said.
Nadine pointed out what she loves about staying in Siargao.
“I love being in Siargao just because I feel free, to be honest. I’m not shitting on Manila but I mean here kasi in Manila I feel so… I don’t know but parang ang sikip-sikip na nakakasakal,” she honestly said.
“I feel like I’m in a box and everyone is rushing towards something but I don’t know where they’re rushing to and what it is that they want to achieve. Everyone is cloying their way up and tapos nagpapaunahan? That’s what I feel whenever I’m here.”
So when she moved to Siargao, Nadine further said, “That’s the time I realized, oh my god, okay, here I’m actually savoring life. You know, I have time to just sit down, just look at the view, just think or just relax. Dun ko na-feel. Dito kasi ang hirap parang sakal talaga ako ‘pag andito ako.”
The 28-year-old clarified that she’s still based in Manila but that “as soon as I don’t have work, I fly there. I’ll be flying in a couple days.”
Her getting a life coach came up during the interview in connection with the National Mental Health Summit held Oct. 25 and 26, organized by Mind You in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH). Mind You is an online platform for mental health that Nadine had invested in alongside celebrity friends Yassi Pressman and Liza Soberano. She served as a panelist at one of the forums of the two-day event at the SM Aura Samsung Hall in Bonifacio Global City.
Nadine was expected to attend the gala night on Oct. 24 with boyfriend Christopher Bariou. The event was meant to raise funds for specific national support programs such as suicide prevention, low-cost mental health support for economically vulnerable communities, and gender-inclusive programs for women, youth and the LGBTQIA+ community.
It’s no secret that the singer-actress has also found love in Siargao. Early this year, she went public with her relationship with the French-Filipino businessman, who has been based in Siargao for almost a decade now.
Nadine opened up about how much of a supportive boyfriend Bariou is, especially in terms of her mental health.
“Super (supportive). I cry like I don’t care. I cry in front of Chris all the time when I’m super stressed out and he’s always giving me words of encouragement,” she shared.
“But aside from that, he helps me with all my other advocacies as well,” she said, speaking about other advocacies she has taken up, including environment and animal welfare. “He’s very supportive… Anything that he can help with, he will do it.”
What Nadine learned about love is not to look for it.
“Don’t look for it. Let it find you. That’s it,” she said.
“But really, ako, ‘yun lang talaga, don’t look for it. ‘Wag mo habulin. Kasi the more you chase it, the more it’s not gonna come to you,” she reiterated.
Nadine also advised girls not to give their everything.
“But don’t give your all din. Like if your cup is empty or half-empty, you shouldn’t give anything away. Sabi nga ni RuPaul (of Drag Race fame), if you can’t love yourself how the hell can you love somebody else?” she said.
“Dapat puno ka muna before you share.”
