How Kim Chiu stays ‘relevant’ in the digital age
MANILA, Philippines — Kim Chiu is thankful for all the supporters who patronized Viva Film’s Always, her reunion project with boyfriend Xian Lim. Always is the local adaptation of the 2011 South Korean movie of the same title.
“Thank you to all who watched (the film) in cinemas. Nakakatuwa and very thankful kami ni Xian,” she said during a recent presscon. “It’s a super different experience working on a certain role na nakakapanibago lang. We’re very happy that it was shown (in theaters) and accepted by people.”
Her favorite line from the film is, “You are my rock,” when she said this to Xian. “Nakakapanibago kasi mag-aarte kayo sa harap ng isa’t isa (especially) with intimate scenes na ganun.”
Even though Xian works in another network, the Kapamilya actress said it’s not an issue for them. “We’re both doing our projects individually, separately, and I think it’s also part of our growth and our choices in life.”
Being a longtime couple in real life and 11 years a love team, Kim was asked if they have plans of taking their relationship to the next level. She answered, “Siyempre hindi ko naman alam. Bata pa naman kami, (we are in our) 30s. In this day and age, parang masyado pang maaga yun.”
“Pinag-uusapan naman namin yun basta abangan niyo na lang,” she added.
Nevertheless, Kim felt that Xian is her “Mr. Right.” “He’s really Mr. Right. Hindi naman niya pinapasakit yung ulo ko, so siguro.”
He further described the actor-director as “very loyal,” “Yung parang kahit iharap mo siya sa ibang girls parang ako pa rin yung maganda (laughs).”
Kim is also “very excited” to star in an upcoming project with the streaming platform Amazon Prime, but she did not give much details yet.
Meanwhile, Kim is “very happy and very thankful” for another year that Hairfix has tapped her as its celebrity endorser. The media interview took place when she renewed her contract with the hair care brand.
“Knowing na andaming influencers, madaming YouTubers and all na parang kasabayan na rin namin as brand ambassadors, happy ako na Hairfix still trusts me as a celebrity endorser.”
“Now kasi na digital era na tayo, everyone is known. Every(one) can influence kahit sino. So, it’s a wider range. It’s more fun. Maraming options ang mga brands to choose from. That’s why (I’m) happy, as an artista, the brands are choosing us also,” she furthered.
Kim said she is taking advantage of the various platforms such as YouTube and TikTok to maintain her online presence and stay relevant in the digital age.
“It’s a bigger world for each and everyone. Pwedeng nasa bahay ka lang, tapos andami mo ng views. So parang ganyan siya, mabilis yung with the digital era na meron tayo ngayon. Andami na nating kakilala. Andami na pwedeng brand ambassadors and all. It’s a different world ngayon than before.”
After her viral Bawal Lumabas “mistake,” Kim said she learned how to deal with bashers. “Deadma ko na lang silang lahat (laughs). Parang OK na, na-immune na ako sa kanilang lahat. Napaliguan na nila ako ng bonggang-bongga, so ‘pag meron ngayong mga minor comments or ano, wala na yun. OK na yun. Parang ano na lang, hello.”
Kim has been an endorser of the hair brand since 2020. She was chosen because she is “a celebrity who can do anything whatever she sets her mind to, and is successful at that one — a total package.”
Hairfix has just conducted a hair donation drive in cooperation with Kim and Hair for Hope, a charity organization aiming to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. The proceeds from the accumulated product purchases have been utilized to raise funds to provide hair wigs, which were distributed in participation with the Philippine General Hospital.
