Daniel Matsunaga goes public with new GF

MANILA, Philippines — Brazilian-Japanese model-actor Daniel Matsunaga did not hide anything when spotted with his present girlfriend, Julia Nunes, also a Brazilian model.

The girl was featured on the catwalk for Macbeth clothing apparel, now marking its 20th year in the business. The event was held last weekend at Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City.

“I’m only supporting my friends, that’s why I’m here,” Daniel said. “Super nice ang event. Ang daming food. The fashion show was great and their clothes are really nice.”

Daniel disclosed he and Julia have been together for more than a year now. Yet, he denied any wedding plans for both of them.

“Hindi pa. Malayo pa,” he said about any altar date.

With his current girlfriend, Daniel is apparently far from any controversy lately. They met here in Manila more than a year ago.

Last February, Daniel simply gave a hint on his Instagram when he showed a lady with him at El Nido in Palawan. At that time, he had not yet revealed the identity of Julia.

The actor, who’s turning 34 in November, has been involved lately with mostly non-showbiz ladies. He was previously romantically involved with high-profile showbiz actresses such as Heart Evangelista and Erich Gonzales.

His relationship with Erich even ended in an ugly break-up.

In 2017, Daniel dated Polish model Karolina Pisarek, who is based in Los Angeles. They were together for two years, but maintained a long-distance relationship. In 2019, however, the two called it quits.

Although Daniel is not pre-occupied with any acting assignment, he is busy with his business. “Monkey business,” he joked.

Even before the pandemic, the actor-model embarked on a food cart business that shares Brazilian food like churrasco, pastel and pao de queijo (cheese bread) with Filipinos.

Meanwhile, the 20th anniversary show of Macbeth clothing apparel officially launched Lady Macbeth and Macbeth Underwear, merging fashion and live music in the presentation. Everything onstage exhibited Macbeth’s passion for music, arts and denim.

Thirty models donned three sets of the latest collection of Macbeth — the Denim collection, the Rock collection and the 20th collection.

Not only hand-held video cameras documented the fashion show, even cameras in drones circled the venue while the fashion show was ongoing.

Twenty artists from mainstream and underground music performed starting from mid-afternoon to late night. The bands included Urbandub, Mayonaisse, Sandwich, Written by the Stars, Chocolate Factory, Soapdish and Chelsea Alley with Macbeth All-Stars and Macbeth Superband.

Much awaited was the performance of Rico Blanco, who did a 45-minute set. He opened with his original, Antukin, followed by familiar Rivermaya hits that had the crowd singing – Elesi, Umaaraw Umuulan, 214, Awit ng Kabataan. He closed the set with another original piece, Yugto.
