What Sharon Cuneta wants to do for her next movie

What Sharon Cuneta wants to do for her next movie
The critically-acclaimed Star Cinema movie, Madrasta, gave Sharon a Best Actress grand slam for her heartfelt portrayal of a wife and stepmother.

Filipinos have the chance to watch the digitally restored and remastered version of the critically-acclaimed Star Cinema movie, Madrasta, that is now streaming on KTX.ph.

The box-office film not only marked the reunion of Sharon Cuneta and Christopher de Leon on the big screen, but it also gave Sharon a Best Actress grand slam for her heartfelt and moving portrayal of a wife and stepmother, who will do everything to keep their family intact.

Sixteen years after working together on a movie for the first time, Sharon and director “Inang” Olive Lamasan were reunited in a pre-show and asked what kind of project they would work on if given the opportunity.

For Inang, it would be a woman’s story. And Sharon would trust Inang to come up with a different concept in the same way she agreed to do Madrasta, which was unlike her previous works.

“I would trust Inang to come up with a concept na iba, pero alaga ako. I wouldn’t mind pushing the envelope further. A woman in her 50s now is like being in her 30s. Dati kasi, parang hinihintay mo na lang ang kamatayan. I want to be the flag bearer. If you want to fall in love, of course, you can. There will still be options. Dadalhin ko ang bandila ng generation ko,” she shared.

Sharon would love to do a love story again and work with some actors she has previously worked with.

The actress shares a scene with Claudine Barretto, who plays the stepdaughter

“I would like to work with Robin (Padilla) again. Robin is my favorite. I am happiest at work when it is Robin because we have the same sense of humor. It is always a happy set, and I am always, always so well taken care of by Robin,” she said.

“I would like to work with Aga (Muhlach) again because he is such a great actor and has been one of my good friends for 20 years. Then, I would like to work with Boyet again before we all turn into prunes. I want to work with them again. I would love to do a love story again. I would also like to work with Gabby (Concepcion) under Inang again,” she added.

Sharon stars alongside Christopher de Leon in Madrasta written by Ricky Lee and directed by Olivia Lamasa

Sharon is thankful that two of her films, Madrasta and Minsan Minahal Kita, have been digitally restored and shown again for a new audience.

“I am extremely grateful. Not everyone is given that rare gift of seeing themselves at different stages. My children have seen my movies. I am looking forward to having my grandchildren see their grandma when she was 15 and 16 and most of her exes on screen. KC’s children can see their lolo and lola on screen. Malapit-lapit na sa live album ng buhay ko,” she said.

It has enabled Sharon to grow her fan base that now includes younger Sharonians who look up to her as a mother or a sister.

“I have a new generation of fans called Gen S. They are aged 10 to 20. They are very active. They would say, ‘Bakit ngayon lang ako pinanganak?’ It is so heartwarming,” she shared. “They got to know me through my movies on TV. Tapos, biglang, they will research you. They find me like a mama, a sister.”

Sharon with her leading man Richard Gomez in Minsan, Minahal Kita, also an Olivia Lamasan film

Like in Madrasta, Sharon also played another “flawed” character in Minsan, Minahal Kita, which reunited her with Richard Gomez under the helm of Inang.

“I was excited she was going to play a woman with an affair,” said Inang. “Nailabas niya yung pagka-human ng flawed character.”

In Minsan, Sharon plays a submissive and battered wife, whose life changed when she met and later fell in love with a real estate developer, who is also trying to prove his worth to his in-laws. Fans of Sharon-Richard loveteam can watch or rewatch the movie again on KTX.ph for P150.

Sagip Pelikula, now in its seventh year, continues to remaster films from directors and writers of note for today’s viewers to appreciate.
