New season of 'Bridgerton' sets Netflix record for English-language series

MANILA, Philippines — Netflix has announced that the season two of hit period show "Bridgerton" is now the most-viewed English-language series on the streamer, logging 251.7M hours of views in the last week.

On the opening weekend of "Bridgerton" S2, the show clocked up 193M hours and ranked in the top 10 series of nearly 100 countries. Making a return to Netflix's top ten is "Bridgerton's" first season as it counted an additional 53M hours viewed.

It dehrones the previous record-holder "Inventing Anna," another show produced by Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland which was released this year.

The period show however is no match for the global phenomenon that is "Squid Game," with more than twice as much views in a given week with a whopping 571.8 hours.

The newest season of "Bridgerton" follows Jonathan Bailey's Anthony, the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, and his turn at romance alongside Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley.
