MANILA, Philippines — Canadian singing sensation Michael Bublé explained why he gave his grandfather’s house to his Filipina caregiver last year.

In the virtual press conference of Kumu’s “Sing For The Stars” competition where he is one of the judges, Michael shared the story behind the generous gesture in response to Philstar.com.

“Well, I happen to have a really soft spot for the country, for the people. I just, I'm surrounded by a lot of them. And I see a lot of goodness and a lot of heart. I see people who are good to their families, and a lot of people where I'm from, worked our butts off so that they can send money back home. And that's just for me, that's just a really classy group of human beings, have a lot of integrity,” Michael said.

Michael said that it wasn’t his idea to give the house to Minette, but it was actually his grandfather’s dying wish.

“The truth is, it wasn't my idea. I didn't want to give the house to anyone. It just turns out that my grandpa was my best friend in life, and he gave me everything I have. And when he was getting to a point where I knew he wasn't he was just feeling like, you know, he was old,” he said.

“And he would just say to me that these caretakers were incredible to him. And he would always say, you know, his dream was to give them a place where they could live and work and that they could send money back home and help their families,” he added.

He said that he’s grateful to become part of a great moment.

“So when he passed away, I had the opportunity to be part of a great moment in my life and the Property Brothers and they had this idea and I was so happy, it was just the most perfect fit,” he said.

“I was just over there yesterday with Minette and I'm so happy that we did it. Because every time I go there and I talk to them, I just know how proud my grandpa would be, and how much it would mean to him and keeps his memory alive for me. So there's a lot of honoring that from me,” he added.
