MANILA, Philippines — Fans of ABS-CBN 's "The Broken Marriage Vow" are spoiled with an uninterrupted viewing experience and advanced episode, thanks to the pan-regional streaming service Viu. Apart from airing on its own channel, the show is also streamed on the site.

Recent episodes of the extramarital, family drama series saw Dr. Jill Lustre (Jodi Sta. Maria) get her much-awaited revenge on her wayward husband, David (Zanjoe Marudo), and the people who helped him cover up his affair with Lexy Lucero (Sue Ramirez).

Things are heating up after Dr. Jill temporarily halts her medical practice and decides to leave Diane (Jane Oineza) out of her marital woes, since the latter has to deal with her problematic boyfriend Enzo (Joem Bascon). She's trying to fix things up with David but the lady doctor's patience is running thin when she sees her husband still has his fixation on his younger mistress.

"Iba 'yung hatid ng actors natin. Iba 'yung hitsura, location. Kahit alam mo na ang storyline, may excitement, seeing something come alive from an idea," director Connie Macatuno said during the show's presscon early this year.

"The Broken Marriage Vow" is adapted from the hit 2015 BBC One series "Doctor Foster." South Korea also adapted the story and made a global hit out of "The World of the Married."

Show-runners of the Pinoy adaptation said that everything they did on the show, including the script, underwent approval from the British franchise owner. The show is mostly shot in Baguio and filming was completed before it premiered last January 28.

Original content and own dub

The nightly drama is not the only Filipino content on the pan-regional site. It also produced its original musical "Still" starring Julie Anne San Jose and Christian Bautista.

It tells us the story of Sab (Gab Pangilinan) and Laura (San Jose) who find themselves stranded in Balay along with other misfits, Iggy (Mike Shimamoto), Tugs (Abe Autea), and Leigh (Lance Reblando), during the nationwide lockdown. Each of the characters, bound by quarantine and their love for music, navigate through their personal struggles, unlock true friendship, and find hope amid uncertain times.

Apart from popular Korean dramas in original audio with the standard English subtitle, its Philippine portfolio is noticeably lined-up with Tagalog-dubbed shows that are mostly of K-dramas. Some of these were shown in local channels.

"We commission an entirely new dubbing cast for each of the Tagalog-dubbed K-dramas we release on the Viu platform. We take deliberate measures to ensure the quality of our TagDub releases, always making it a point to stay closest to the overall personality, quality of the original Kdrama and using the characters’ Korean names while injecting the Filipino character to make it either funnier or more kilig," shared Arianne Kader-Cu, Viu Philippines country manager, to Philstar.com.

Viu has been offering dubs of K-dramas in the local vernacular where the streaming service is offered, such as Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

Some of these are the third season of "The Penthouse", "Mr. Queen", "Sell Your Haunted House", "The Devil Judge," and "Doom At Your Service." These are fairly new dramas. Older dramas such as "She Was Pretty", "Reply 1988," "Descendants of the Sun," and "My Love From The Star" are also dubbed in Tagalog.

Kader-Cu shared that their viewers appreciate having the choice to watch their favorite Kdramas in either the original Korean-English subtitled format or in the local vernacular dub version.

"Most of them actually watch both versions with equal enjoyment," she said.
