Miss Universe Philippines sets stage for 2022 pageant season

MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) is now accepting applications as the organization has welcomed its new season.

"Follow the footsteps of your favorite Miss Universe Philippines queens and start a queendom of your own! The application process for the most prestigious pageant in the country is now officially open," the organization posted yesterday, announcing that the deadline of submission is set on February 15.

"The crown is waiting for its next queen," MUPh first teased the new season in a Facebook post on January 31. 

The organization also announced yesterday that it officially started accepting applications, with a deadline on submission set on February 15.

MUPh also published the qualifications set for aspirants. Candidates must be:

1) 18 and under 28 years old at the time of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant

2) A Filipino citizen and holder of a Philippine passport

3) Female, never been married, and never have been pregnant.

In June 2021, the beauty pageant organization made headlines when it removed the minimum height requirements for aspiring candidates. MUPh aims to continue the barrier-breaking policy.

Meanwhile, pageant fans from across the world have their respective bets who they think should compete for the Universe Philippines crown.

MUPh national director Shamcey Supsup-Lee inspired fans to refrain from pressuring their bets if they're not yet ready. 

"I support all the fans. As long as the girl is willing. Don't pressure them as well. Every girl has their own timeline. Respect if 'di pa siya ready," she wrote in a message.

She added, "If they're ready, we'll welcome them with open arms. Ang masasabi ko lang, we always play fair in MUPh. We give every girl a fair chance. Not because (previous) winner eh shoo-in na. If they deserve it and they're destined for that night, yun! Di ba?"

Meanwhile, the Miss Universe Organization sent an email to all national directors informing them to select and appoint their respective representatives for the 71st edition by September 12, 2022.

MUO seems to not want to have their annual pageant clash with the FIFA World Cup 2022 schedule, which is slated towards the end of the year.
