Thai stars have Christmas wish, holiday special for pinoy fans
Gulf, Mario and Nonkul (with VJ Utt, rightmost) to Filipino fans: Be safe, stay healthy and follow your passion.

MANILA, Philippines — Christmas is upon us. The Saint Nicholas in all us, by this time, has already made a list, checked it twice, as a song suggests, and found the perfect gifts for family and friends.

Long before the holiday rush, however, the TNT Kilig Trio of Thai stars Mario Maurer, Nonkul Chanon and Gulf Kanawut did prepare a gift for their Filipino fans this Yuletide season. Instead of unwrapping it on Christmas morning, fans will have it on Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. delivered through GigaPlay. It’s content titled TNT Kilig Fest Christmas Special that brings romantic thrill (kilig) and happiness (saya) to TNT and Smart subscribers.

“I would like to say, ‘Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,’ to all,” began Mario before sharing his Christmas wishes to Filipino fans out there, in a recent virtual press conference.

Fellow Thai actors Nonkul and Gulf joined Mario in the panel with VJ Utt as event host. “I would like you, guys, to be safe and I hope we’ll have the chance to meet (each other) in the Philippines,” added he. Nonkul and Gulf also had the same thing in mind.

“I think in this kind of time, being healthy is the best gift you can have,” said Nonkul. “I hope everyone, for this Christmas and the New Year to come, to stay healthy and (to continue) doing what you love.”

Entertaining audiences, hands down, is what Mario, Nonkul and Gulf are passionate to do, not just next year, but in the years to come.

“(As for) my plans for 2022, I think my drama will be out and I’m going to do more shooting days with my new drama,” Mario gave fans a quick update on what they could look forward to in his career.

“For myself, the plan would be, don’t get sick and be able to finish other pending shooting work… I don’t want to slow (things) down,” said Nonkul.

Gulf, for his part, said he would concentrate on “my existing work” and make sure that it comes out very well.

Despite the pandemic, which has witnessed people following health and safety protocols as a paramount adjustment to the new normal, Mario, Nonkul and Gulf have kept their hands full. Proof of it is their TNT endorsement, which started in the second quarter of the year. Although they appreciate every work that comes their way, the good-looking and personable Thai stars know how to relax, refresh and recharge, as one may suggest, away from the klieg lights.

“I would be with my mom at home,” said Mario of his holiday plans. “Lately, I’ve been shooting and I have no much time (with her). I would spend time with my family and maybe I’m going to (a place by) the sea with my friends and family.”

“I will go to Surat (a place in Thailand) with my family,” shared Nonkul. “Unfortunately, that place doesn’t have an Internet (connection) or a phone signal.” So, he is taking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and the social media world.

“What makes me feel kilig I think is the love of the fans,” shared Mario, who would experience it in every fan event he, Nonkul and Gulf grace, during the press conference, “(and) anything, like (fans) sending greetings to us, it’s a very kilig (moment) for me.” Meeting fans virtually and feeling their support from a distance are also kilig moments for Nonkul and Gulf.

According to the information given to the media, the kilig fest special is a platform for TNT and Smart subscribers and fans to know the Thai idols better via games, interviews and performances. Speaking of the latter, Nonkul sang some parts of the Gary Valenciano Christmas song, Pasko Na Sinta Ko, to the delight of media members.

Looking at the content trends in streaming platforms these days, Mario, Nonkul and Gulf were also asked if they would love to star in a Christmas-themed series or movie. Their answer was a yes. They perfectly fit those holiday Prince characters.

“For a Christmas movie, of course, I would like to be in, for as long as the plot is interesting,” said Nonkul.

“For me, to do a movie with a Christmas (theme), I would really love it,” replied Mario.

For Gulf, he likes the idea of doing one, which is similar to Home Alone.

“I think Christmas here in Thailand is getting more famous (and) famous,” said Mario. “People try to celebrate Christmas more and more, even though they are not Catholic or Christian.” The Land of the Free is, as one knows, predominantly Buddhist.

As for Filipino stars the three would like to collaborate with in future acting projects, Mario, who starred in the Star Cinema movie, Suddenly It’s Magic, with Erich Gonzalez, said, “I worked with many, many actors and actresses in the Philippines. I’m really open (to work with anyone). For me to choose one now, I will choose Sue Ramirez. She’s (also) a TNT (ambassador) like us. She’s very beautiful, very talented. I would love to work with her.”

Marian Rivera, a member of the 70th Miss Universe selection committee, was the choice of Nonkul. “I saw some of her works and I think I really like her acting,” said he.

As for Gulf, he said, “I’m (also) open to work with anyone.”
