Kim, Emil & Patricia serve daily news, good vibes

Kim Atienza, Emil Sumangil and Patricia Tumulak will serve the latest news and information, gathered “all around the town,” to GTV viewers in Dapat Alam Mo! Their news magazine work of keeping the public updated begins on Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The triumvirate is also glad to be the bearer of serbisyong totoo and good vibes. They are one in saying, “Wagi ang may alam.”

“(Ito) ay maraming paraan (It can be done and delivered in many ways),” said Kuya Kim of public service, a vital component of news magazine shows in a virtual media conference. “You don’t need to give ayuda to say that you’re doing public service. There are a lot of vocations that give public service. For instance, giving the public information by television, broadcasting by itself is a (form) of public service.”

With that, Dapat Alam Mo! is an articulation of the network and its workers’ brand of serving the people. The latter goes beyond the usual route, where an organization visits a community and gives dole-outs like financial help or food distribution. Kuya Kim reiterated that broadcasting is public service and so his turf is in providing trivia that people may use at certain points in their life.

Aside from giving relevant and reliable information to viewers, Dapat Alam Mo! will also present issues that the common tao deal with. Then Emil, the veteran news reporter-anchor comes into the picture. “Yung talpak, online sabong, isa yan sa mga tututukan sa paglunsad ng programang ito (Online sabong, cockfight, is an issue that the program will focus on),” said he, “isang mabigat na suliranin na kinatagpo ng ating kababayan.” According to Emil, this person gets hooked on online sabong and Dapat Alam Mo! extends its help by providing a rehabilitation program.

“Yung public service natin ay hindi lamang duon sa mga may sakit, sa mga biktima ng pandemya, sa mga nawalan ng trabaho (Our public service is not only limited to alleviating the condition of those who are sick, victims of the pandemic and job seekers),” said he. “Nakapag-isip pa tayo ng ibang kaparaanan para matulungan yung mga kakaibang nagsusulputang problema at suliranin ng ating mga kababayan na hatid ng makabagong panahon.”

From the information provided to the media, Emil will also be seen talking to authorities and concerned groups in finding solutions to issues raised by viewers. He takes the lead to coordinate with government and private groups for rescue and relief operations during calamities.

What’s good about the news magazine program is, said Patricia, it tackles “different things.” Among them is entertainment, which anchors on the idea of spreading good vibes. “It could be inspirational, not just random chika or anything but we make sure na makakatulong siya on your part,” said she of the content. “Ito nga feel good, pampa-good vibes.”

Viewers are in good hands since Kuya Kim, Emil and Patricia will talk about information and features that speak of their interests. The hosts know them like the palm of their hand.

“I think it’s important that you know what you’re talking about, mas maniniwala ang tao, mas relatable ka (People will believe in you and you will be relatable),” said Patricia. “You’ll be more passionate about it and you can relate. (Knowing) what you’re saying, what you’re talking about. It’s important.”

On top of that, Emil added that loving what you’re doing also counts. “Mahalaga na ang ginagawa mo ay gusto mo,” said he. “Hindi lang doble, triple pa o mas marami pang beses na mapag-igi namin lalot mahal at gusto namin ang aming ginagawa.”

An anchor’s lack of enthusiasm or passion over work can easily be sensed by viewers.

“Pero kapag passion mo yung binabasa mo, kahit tanggalin yung script, pwede kang magsalita ng dalawa o tatlong minuto, kapag lalong lalo na when you have the script and you’re talking about something you’re passionate about,” said Kuya Kim. “Dun mo makikita ang buhay sa mata ng isang broadcaster, dun mo makikita na parang gusto ko itong tao na ito kasi halatang gusto niya yung sinasabi niya. Passion is so important and TV is a very harsh medium.” Yes, one can’t rely on the saying: “Fake it till you make it.”

Do Kuya Kim, Emil and Patricia consider their Dapat Alam Mo! work as part of a career transition or development?

“Ang lahat ng bagay ay transition,” answered Kuya Kim, “like I didn’t expect that I would get into this program. Three weeks ago, I just learned that I would be going to Channel 7, na magiging Kapuso pala ako. Everything is transition for me. I do whatever the Lord puts me. I do whatever His will. And then, I shall follow.”

Wherever life brings him or whatever it brings to him, Kuya Kim will take on and embrace it. “Ito ang binigay Niya sa akin ngayon, I intend to make the most out of this opportunity that He gave,” said he.

As for Emil, he considered Dapat Alam Mo! a blessing, and a follow-up, if one may add, after doing News TV Quick Response Team, which was originally headlined by Jiggy Manicad, for two years. “I’ve been given another chance,” shared he. “Ako’y naniniwala na ito ay with the Grace of God. Ito ay kabilang sa mga baitang na hinahakbangan (ko sa ngayon).”

Like Emil, Patricia believed that becoming part of Dapat Alam Mo! is “God’s Grace” and there’s a reason behind it. If this is a tell-tale sign of a promising career in broadcasting, the beauty queen-turned-TV personality seemed excited and looked at herself as a newbie, “who is in level one. This will be a good training ground for me to where I may go into in the future.”

For those like Kuya Kim, Emil and Patricia, who work hard and love their craft, the future is bright. They can’t wait to commence their work in Dapat Alam Mo! Audiences will feel their excitement.
