Roxanne finds the perfect work-life balance

Knowing that a mother is responsible for her child, Roxanne Guinoo-Yap puts her children, Sophia, Reine and Reilly, and husband Angelo Elton Yap, at the top of her priority list whenever she finds herself having to make a decision between career and family.

Roxanne, who began her acting profession after joining Star Circle Quest in 2004, became less visible in showbiz when she became a wife to her Fil-Chinese businessman husband and started raising their own family. Her temporary showbiz hiatus allowed her to give her time and full attention to family. However, her special appearance in The General’s Daughter, somehow made her supporters clamor to see her more on screen.

Although the actress has returned to doing showbiz projects — the latest of which is the iWantTFC digital series Hoy! Love You! which is now on its second season — being a mother remains the most important role she plays in life.

During the virtual media call for Hoy! Love You Two, Roxanne told The STAR that she makes it a point to balance her time between work and family especially in this time of pandemic.

“Ngayong pandemic, because I’m a hands-on mom it’s really tough for me to decide which work to accept since I also tutor my kids. So, before I accepted Hoy! Love You it’s too (tough to decide), well, perhaps, if the work is meant for you, talagang mangyayari kahit pa anong mangyari.”

She continued, “Hindi ako p’wedeng tumanggap ng work na mag-sasabay. That way, at least, I can have time for work and still give quality time to my kids. ‘Pag walang work, I really am full-time (with them). But when there’s work, I make it a point to monitor the kids because I believe that even if you are busy, it’s not a reason para i-shut down mo ‘yung araw mo for them.”

She, too, stressed that good communication is important in all aspects of life, especially with your children. “Sa lahat ng bagay kailangan may communication, especially when you’re a mom. Kailangan i-monitor ang anak kung ano ang nangyayari habang wala ka.”

Asked for her Top 3 tips for parents to enjoy parenthood, Roxanne, who also portrays as a mom in Hoy! Love You Two, replied, “Just enjoy every moment with your family, always remind them that you love them dearly although they would feel it by the way they are well taken care of, and to always tell them to believe in God.”

Roxanne could attest how being closer to the Lord can bring inner peace. She said, “From what I’ve also experienced here in Hoy! Love You family, na iba ‘yung nagiging grace when you believe in God. It’s really important to submit yourself to the Lord and the rest will follow. And that’s what I would always hear from Joross (Gamboa, her co-star in the series) that when you submit, God will give you the wisdom to be able to provide everything for your family, peace and love.”
