Cassy and Mavy forge individual paths as GMA artists

Cassy: We’re twins but we’re very different. No sibling rivalry, we’re really just supporting each other. Mavy: I can say we’re having a great healthy competition, where we’re watching one another. Our parents created a healthy environment for us.

Seeing Cassy and Mavy Legaspi on the same stage and screen is a delight. As GMA Artist Center talents, they need to veer away from the “two-peas-in-a-pod” mold and each carve their own niche to grow.

This is what the showbiz royalty twins are set to do, now that GMA 7 has renewed their contracts.

“Growing up, it’s always the both of us, the twins,” Cassy laid the premise on the question about the importance of her and Mavy pursuing different interests and making their own identity in showbiz, during a virtual media call.

“I feel like it’s very important, especially entering this industry now, (that) we start to kinda separate, go and do our own thing. Again, we entered the showbiz world to be our own persons, not to be parang the two of us forever and ever.”

That’s a fair point: Cassy and Mavy are individuals with unique talents to offer. “Yes, we’re twins but we’re very different,” added she. “We hope to showcase that to people na ako ito at siya yun. We’re different, but we’re twins.”

Mavy was sold on this idea by saying that “I’m the type to go my own way and maybe to forge a path for myself,” after listening to tips, as he put it, from parents Carmina Villarroel and Zoren Legaspi. “At the end of the day, you know… I can learn from my very own decisions.” With that, one can say that Carmina and Zoren are nurturing parents to their children, who have grown as respectful and independent persons.

“So far, it’s been a very, very fun ride,” said Mavy of how things are going in his career. “I can’t wait for people to see what I have in store for them, most especially now with I Left My Heart in Sorsogon.” The Heart Evangelista and Richard Yap starrer is Mavy’s first teleserye. His sister Cassy, on the other hand, was part of First Yaya.

“We just had our first lock-in,” Mavy gave media members updates on the production of the upcoming romance-drama series. “We’re not done yet. We just finished our Sorsogon leg. We have a lot (of work) to do. I’m so excited for the upcoming scenes I’m gonna do.” He shared that the cast became like a family and Mavy enjoyed his acting-in-a-bubble experience.

“On and off-cam, we’re all so close,” said he. “I had a blast, a great time. It was first for everything (to me), first teleserye, first in Sorsogon, first time working in a province, first time working in a bubble. There’s so many firsts.”

Yes, the twins love to work with promising and established stars to continue learning the ropes of acting. But Cassy and Mavy are also not closing the door on working with each other in a twin-bill TV series or a movie.

“I think it would be a great experience but we’re so hooked to the idea of working with so many great artists,” said Mavy. “If the chance arises and they give us the show (to be) together, it would be a very fun experience.” All this is possible again with their renewed partnership with GMA. Cassy and Mavy are thrilled about the plans their network will cook up for them.

“We know that we’re in good hands and at the same time, we’re so thankful that GMA trusts us,” said she. “It really means a lot. I think this just motivates us more to do better and to work on our craft.”

As for his part, Mavy had this to share: “Their trust in us makes us really want to prove them also that their decision and trust on us won’t be a mistake, guaranteed we’re working so hard. On- and off-cam, we’re doing our best. We can’t wait to show you more and for us to reach our maximum potential. We can’t wait to get started again with GMA and be a Kapuso once again.”

Part of making things happen for the twins is the parental support, which, according to Mavy, is in the form of advice on doing showbiz and their stories from the past. With that, Cassy and Mavy are ready to make a name for themselves.

“Cassy has her own (path), me, (I) have my own. It’s been a great ride so far,” said he. “I can say we’re having a great healthy competition, (where) we’re watching one another… Our parents did create a healthy environment for us… They made a great sibling relationship (for us), wherein we support one another, we root for one another.”

Cassy added that they have become third parent for each other. “Let’s say, if I need help or maybe I lose motivation, Mavy would step out like as a sibling… and become a third parent, saying, ‘Cass, kaya mo ito.’ (And me responding,) ‘Thank you,’ and vice versa,” shared she. “I like that. We’ve become professional about helping each other. And again, there’s no sibling rivalry, we’re just really supporting each other.”

Asked about their parents’ pieces of advice on falling in love and having crushes, Cassy said, “My mom would tell me, ‘Don’t rush into love. Don’t take it so seriously for now,’ parang enjoy, enjoy daw kasi I’m young. Again, love can wait but your career cannot wait. Prioritize your work first. Mamaya na lang yung love life. Take care of your heart. ‘Wag masyadong ma-fall unless sure ka.”

Mavy shared (and perhaps made a cute reference to his recent Instagram live with I Left My Heart in Sorsogon co-star Kyline Alcantara) that “I can’t say much because naiwan ko na yung puso ko sa Sorsogon.” But love-wise, Mavy said that “Love will always be there… Love will always come. But in career talaga, when the opportunity arises, you have to grab it.”

As for rewarding themselves after working so hard, the twins are brought up by their parents to be wise spenders, shared Mavy. A GMA News Online report says that Cassy and Mavy have been encouraged by their parents to invest in real estate. They also have a final say where their earnings will go. What’s good about Cassy and Mavy is, they know when to save and when to buy things they want.

More than anything else, they know the value of hard work and having work.
