Just like what happened to so many people in the world today, the pandemic brought the pretty Pat Cardoza’s high flying career to a stand-still. She was among the flight attendants put on furlough because of the travel ban. They were not really fired. In fact, they might be called back to work at any time. But to this day, no one knows when.
Thank heavens, she found something she truly loves to fall back on. Now, Pat has been singing since she was three years old and writing songs since she was in the fourth grade. By the time she was 13 years old, she had started singing her compositions in school and during family gatherings. She kept this up over the years but the lure of flying later took precedent as her career.
But then COVID-19 came and flights were suspended. But then she learned about the search for songwriters named Viva Musika. Egged on by friends she decided to record and send in three of her works. No serious stuff, just little songs about love and heartbreak, she believed were her best.
They proved to be indeed. To Pat’s surprise, the songs Mahal, Kailan Ka Babalik and Back To You made her one of the 10 winning songwriters of Viva Musika. She bagged a contract with Viva Music Publishing with an advance guarantee of P100,000. And because Viva liked the way she sang her entries, she got a recording contract as well.
You must have heard it said that when a door closes, God opens a window. Well, He did open one for Pat and it looks out into a bright future. Her first single is out now. It is Kailan Ka Babalik, one of her song entries. It is the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream.
Speaking of dreams, here are more of them coming true. Once again, it is about pretty girls with a new single in the market. And this time there are four of them. They are Awie de Guzman, Denise Silva, Kiara Dario and Jom Logdat. All young and talented, they are a lot of things. Dancers, actresses, cosplayers, program hosts, athletes. But as Daydream, they are singers, the newest girl group in town.
Daydream was put together by actor, singer, songwriter and music producer Nino Alejandro of Rebel Records Philippines and Warner Music Philippines. He also co-wrote the group’s perky first single Fallin’ 4 U with Tania Ament and Nicky De Mauro. As a producer, this is his follow-up to RacheI Alejandro’s comeback single Takip-silim.
We get boy bands all the time. They say this is because there are more girl fans. But seldom girl groups. So, I am hoping that Daydream gets a fair chance into making it big. When that happens, they can call their followers, the Dreamies. Nice.
Unlike Pat or Daydream, Yael Yuzon, Armo Armovit, Gosh Dilay and Tedmark Cruz of the band Sponge Cola cannot be described as pretty. They have also certainly passed the stage of cute. But their music video for their new single Labis-Labis is certainly among the cutest and the sweetest ever made out here.
Directed by Robin Estargo, the video tells the love story of two dogs. They are the Aspin, played by six-year old Jamie and Alex, the two-year-old poodle. I know, I know, this is nothing new. We have seen this before in Disney’s Lady and the Tramp. Even that candle-lit dinner scene was lifted from the movie.
But then Labis-Labis definitely puts one over the classic film. That one was all animation. This music video may be short but then it is a hundred percent live action. That means real dogs and it looks great. And don’t you think it is truly wonderful that Jamie and Alex turned out to be fantastic actors.
This is a touching tribute to our animal friends and isn’t it nice that it comes along with a heartfelt pledge of eternal love that brims to overflowing by Sponge Cola.
