Cebuana still in the running for Bb. Pilipinas

Vanessa A. Balbuena - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Mercedes Romero Pair, who is representing Cebu’s Lapu-Lapu City at Binibining Pilipinas’ 57th edition,

has flown back to Manila to resume her pageant journey.

The Hong Kong-based radio host and model is among 34 remaining candidates of the original 40 unveiled in February 2020. Vickie Rushton, one of the popular hopefuls who was predicted to be a shoo-in for the Bb. Pilipinas-International title after what was to be her third try last year, is no longer competing.

BPCI’s scheduled April 17 finals is not pushing through after the new wave of lockdowns in NCR. A new coronation date has yet to be announced.

Mercedes, 27, was seen in an Undercover  Asia documentary last year which uncovered the unsavory side of Philippine pageants. In the program, she shared her reason for joining Bb. Pilipinas was to earn money – if she won a title – to pay for the medical bills of her mother, who is suffering from a chronic kidney disease.

Fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, Mercedes has a Business Studies degree from the University College in Dublin, Ireland, and a Diploma in Corporate Communications from Hongkong.
