More directors and films associated with them

In November last year, my friend Ronald Constantino came up with a list of Filipino directors and the films associated with them. That list was by no means complete as pointed out by some readers (and some directors). One who sent a further list was reader Hannibal Marayag who reminded Funfare the directors on his list “have also made a mark in Philippine Cinema.”

Take a look (names listed at random)...

Jose Nepomuceno — Noli Me Tangere (1930)

Octavio Silos — Tunay na Ina (1939)

Tor Villano — Halimaw (1941)

Jose Climaco — Sa Kabukiran (1947)

Conrado Conde — Taga sa Bato (1957)

F.H. Constantino — Batangueña (1953)

Mar S. Torres — Maalaala Mo Kaya (1954)

Armando Garces — Paru-parong Bukid (1957)

Luis San Juan — Pitong Pasiklab (1964)

Jose Wenceslao — Shake Baby Shake (1966)

Luis Enriquez (Eddie Rodriguez) — Siete Dolores (1968)

Ruben Abalos — Uhaw (1970)

Artemio Marquez — Lollipops and Roses (1971)

Danny Holmsen — Hindi Kita Malimot (1973)

Ben Feleo — Miss Aruba Went to Town (1974) Cirio H. Santiago — Fe, Esperanza, Caridad (1974)

Danilo Cabrera — Araw-Araw Gabi-Gabi (1975) Eric de Guia (a.k.a. Kidlat Tahimik) — Mababangong Bangungot (Perfumed Nightmare, 1977)

Behn H. Cervantes — Sakada (1976)

Luciano B. Carlos — Disco Baby (1977)

Nilo Saez — Kalibre .45 (1980)

William Pascual — Takaw Tukso (1986)

Maria Saret — Lorenzo Ruiz...The Saint...A Filipino! (1988)

From Team Argante: Thanks for the article (November 21, 2020). By the way, I also think of Carlitos Siguion-Reyna via Ikaw Pa Lang Ang Minahal starring Richard Gomez and Maricel Soriano. I wonder why he isn’t doing any film after that and his other movies? Anyway, more power!

CCP head Nick Lizaso reminded Funfare that he also directed several films (aside from episodes for Maalaala Mo Kaya and Magpakailanman), among them Markadong Anghel (1976), Flor de Liza (1981), Ulo ng Gapo (1985), Magnanakaw (1995), Anak ng Dilim (1997) and Kapangyarihan ni Eva (1977).
