ABS-CBN music keeps local scene alive
Maymay Entrata has launched a new song titled I Love You 2, a timely tribute to ABS-CBN, which many refer to as Channel 2.
I Love You 2 takes listeners on a nostalgic recollection of some of ABS-CBN’s most unforgettable shows, like Maalaala Mo Kaya and Ipaglaban Mo, and well-loved characters Budoy, Honesto, Kristala, Cardo Dalisay, and many more.
Maymay is just one of the Kapamilya singers who keep audiences entertained with new songs during the quarantine period.
ABS-CBN Music continues to produce songs and make them available on YouTube and other streaming services.
Just last month, Inigo Pascual released the optimistic and soulful track Balang Araw, which is currently topping local charts. He also introduced his international single Should Be Me last May.
Moira dela Torre recently released her much-awaited Patawad album, which includes the trilogy Paalam, Patawad in the tracks — her collaboration with I Belong To The Zoo Patawad, Paalam, her collab with Ben&Ben Paalam, and the titular song Patawad.
During this pandemic, ABS-CBN has also come up with inspirational songs to bring soothing sound and heartwarming messages to listeners.
ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo introduced a new version of Soc Villanueva’s patriotic anthem Pinakamamahal Kong Bayan. At the same time, Arnel Pineda launched his song Your Soldiers as a tribute to the courage of local heroes risking their lives to fight coronavirus.
Meanwhile, two ABS-CBN Music talents expressed their artistry on K-dramas airing on Kapamilya Channel.
Jona sang the heartbreaking theme song of The World of a Married Couple titled Tinatapos Ko Na, while the King of Teleserye Theme Songs Erik Santos sang the hopeful ballad Kung Maibabalik, the official soundtrack of Familiar Wife.
ABS-CBN’s music arm has steadily expanded its records to cater to listeners of different generations and bring OPM sound of various genres, beyond the usual pop and ballad offering.
Last month, urban pop artist Young JV released his R&B pop single Outta My Mind, while alternative/indie singer-songwriter Acel launched her self-penned song, Alaala.
Other up-and-coming artists have also introduced their unique sound, like former Idol Philippines finalist Miguel Odron, who recently dropped his sophomore single titled Weed, a song he wrote a decade ago about his first heartbreak.
Promising Kapamilya talents also include singer-songwriter Sab, who just launched the coming-of-age track She and electro-pop artist Lesha, who sang Ciao, Bella and even produced, directed and edited its music video.
More Kapamilya artists are expected to come out with their new music soon: Jake Zyrus, who is set to drop Miss You In The Moonlight anytime this month and Catriona Gray who recorded her version of the song Raise Your Flag.
