With his interpretation of Fantasia Barrino’s I Believe, Jeremiah Tiangco became the grand champion of The Clash Season 2.
Tagged as the Pop Heartthrob of Imus, Jeremiah beat four other clashers namely, Nef Medina, Jennifer Maravilla, Antonette Tismo and Thea Astley. His onstage performances of I Believe I Can Fly, I Set Fire and I Believe in the last two final rounds of the competition received deafening applause from the audience and positive remarks from the judges composed of Christian Bautista, Ai-Ai delas Alas and Lani Misalucha.
Among the finalists, Jeremiah had a clean record during the duration of the contest. Never did he get eliminated in any set of challenges. His flawless performances always landed him in the safe spot. He, too, never got to the bottom list.
During the pocket interview days before the finale night, Jeremiah said he wanted to do something new to make his voice distinct. “The judges would tell us that we should make our voice noticeable; para may marka sa tao na tipong pag narinig nila sasabihin nila, ‘Ah, si Jeremiah ‘yun.”
The 22-year-old Jeremiah, who had tried twice before bagging the top plum in The Clash, won over P4M worth in prizes, including P1M cash, an exclusive GMA management contract, a brand-new car and a house and lot from Bria.
According to Jeremiah, he will share his winnings with his family who became an inspiration to him. He has been praying to God to make his dreams come true not for himself but for his loved ones.
“’Yung pinsan ko po na kinupkop namin mapag-aaral ko na siya. I’m an only child and he was six years old when he stayed with us and now, he’s 10, sobrang happy ko po na nagkaroon ako na tinuturing na kapatid at kuya n’ya ako.
“And I am also thankful for this moment because my father can now relax. He’s been working overseas as a seaman for more than 30 years so even before the contest, I promised him that if ever I win, he will not work anymore. They’re the reason why I joined in this contest. Bonus na din po sa akin na nanalo ako. I am also thankful to the Lord for leading me to this path,” added Jeremiah.
