MANILA, Philippines — Los Bastardos leading ladies Kylie Verzosa and Maxine Medina have patched things up, following the controversial “spitting” incident in one of their catfights in the series.
Kylie cleared the issue during the series’ thanksgiving presscon last Wednesday, also attended by Ronaldo Valdez, Pinky Amador, Jake Cuenca, Marco Gumabao, Albie Casiño, Joseph Marco, Joshua Colet, Ritz Azul, Mica Javier, Mary Joy Apostol and Jeffrey Santos.
Kylie recalled she immediately apologized to Maxine.
“We had an intense scene at sobrang heightened na po ‘yung emotions namin. Hindi naman po maiiwasan na may masasaktan po na iba. But I said sorry naman right away.”
Maxine said she already accepted Kylie’s apology, adding that Kylie did so after four days.
“I think this is also a lesson for us that before doing a scene, we should talk about it first. So if ever may mangyari na hindi ka-nais-nais, eh kaya natin mag-sorry right after. But she already said sorry and we already talked about it, okay na po ‘yun,” said Maxine.
Kylie added, “Actually, ‘yun nga po dapat ang ginawa namin before the scene na dapat nag-usap kami. Siguro ‘yun lang po ‘yung pagkukulang ko or pagkukulang namin. I know that I asked sorry right away. I just hoped she confronted me man lang sa set if she was feeling bad ‘di ba? What’s important is we’re okay now and all apologies were said.”
Kylie’s co-star and boyfriend Jake explained, “I immediately told Kylie na dapat pinag-uusapan ng artista ang gagawin sa eksena. But there are instances na hindi pinag-uusapan dahil nadadala lang talaga ang isang artista sa eksena kaya nakakagawa ito ng bagay na hindi naman niya sinasadya. It’s not our intention na manakit, mambastos but at the end of the day, you are in character.”
He added that what’s more important is they learned something from it “especially that they’re both new in the industry. At the end of the day, hindi naman kami inuupo before the show at tinuturuan ng etiquette na maging artista, wala naman. It’s not something that’s taught. Wala namang eskuwelahan talaga na nagtuturo sa iyo na ‘ito, dapat ganito sa eksena.’ You just figure it out, you learn from it while doing the scene.
“I would say that for both girls, napakahusay nila. I think ‘yung highlight nila na nagsabunutan sila, ‘yun pa yung nag-20 percent, isa sa pinakamataas na ratings namin. I’m very proud of both them, especially obviously Kylie because she is my girlfriend. I’m proud of her for what she has done... I have nothing but kind words for everyone in the cast,” said Jake.
When asked if they’re both willing to work together again, Maxine and Kylie eagerly answered “yes.”
Meanwhile, after almost one year since it aired in October 2018, the Kapamilya hit afternoon series is nearing its finale week starting Monday, Sept. 23.
The series promises more intense fight scenes as the Cardinal brothers played by Jake, Marco, Albie, Joseph Marco and Joshua encounter the biggest battle of their lives to make their family whole again using only their love for family and bravery as their strongest weapons. Viewers already had a taste of what to expect in the series’ run-up to the finale after the “spitting” incident.
