MANILA, Philippines — Singer-composer Syd Hartha Chua, daughter of Marcus Adoro, guitarist of ‘90s cult OPM band Eraserheads, has exposed her father for alleged physical and sexual abuse.
In a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, Chua shared that she now understands why her relatives have been keeping her father away from her.
According to her, for 15 years, she longed for nothing but for love and affection from her father.
Although Syd finally got what she wanted as she finally had the chance to be with her father for almost a year, she now regrets having to experience different kinds of abuses from him.
The teen singer behind the song “Ayaw” said she is opening up about her bad experiences just now because she thought her dad would change for the better.
No matter how much she tried to stay away from her dad, who she fondly calls “Makoy,” he kept on winning her back, she said.
And yet, every time she gives him another chance, he would physically hurt her, she said.
“Hindi lang isang beses na sinaktan niya ako nang pisikal. tinatama niya ulo ko sa pader; kahit sa harap ng kaibigan ko o kapag nakatalikod nanay ko.. i never realized then na i might be interrupting his karma. i should've done better but i know i tried to help myself as much as i could.”
While Marcus remains at large, Syd fears that the abuses might happen again, if not on her, to others.
“Hanggang ngayon, araw araw kong bitbit yung takot na baka mangyari ulit ito sa akin o sa kahit sino man. sana magsilbi itong gabay sa lahat. this monster could be anywhere now doing who else knows what. let’s watch out for each other.”
In her post, Syd showed screenshots of her conversations with her dad. Some messages were sexual and mentioned “rape” several times.
She also showed a screengrab of a conversation with actress Barbara Ruaro, her father’s former partner, who also recently spoke about an alleged abuse.
Before her revelation, Syd shared a post linking to Abante’s report that said Marcus is now wanted by the police for alleged illegal substance abuse and violence against women and children.
