MANILA, Philippines — International rock star Arnel Pineda is hoping that the planned Hollywood movie about his life will push through.

In an interview with the media during the grand re-opening of Hard Rock Café Manila in S Maison, Arnel said he will dedicate the biopic to unknown Filipino musicians.

“Let’s cross our fingers. I hope it happens because I would like to dedicate this to all the unknown Filipino musicians who are losing their hopes. They thought hindi na sila magsa-succeed. I think if they see this, they would feel na hindi pala masamang mag-hope and then work hard,” Arnel said.

Reports last December said that “Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon Chu and Warner Brothers are working on a film about the life of the Filipino singer and Journey front man.

“The success of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ has blown my mind and set me on a path to champion more unique inspirational stories that represent new perspectives from all around the world… This story in particular has been on my mind since I first read about it years ago. A true fairy tale and triumph of the human spirit,” the director explained on why he chose to make an Arnel Pineda biopic.

“An unlikely hero, an undeniable talent, the power of music and a worldwide stage (literally) has all the ingredients I love about movies. Plus I have been a fan of Journey’s music since I can remember. I am excited to be bringing the audience along on this incredible story with my partners at Warner Bros who have been a leading champion of diverse voices in front and behind the camera,” he added.

Arnel led the traditional guitar smashing at the grand opening of the iconic bar, then he performed with a band to the delight of the crowd.

“I consider myself an alumnus of Hard Rock Café. I would like this to happen again, if they want me back,” Arnel said.
