In photos: Filipino stars as ‘Avengers’
MANILA, Philippines — In time for the world premiere of Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame” this week, a Filipino graphic artist has presented his rendering of some Filipino celebrities in character as “Avengers” superheroes.
Glenn Paolo Villeza’s illustrations posted on Instagram and Facebook have gone viral for re-imagining Filipino stars in “Avengers” costumes. Villeza assembled his own pool of “Avengers,” including Kim Chiu as Mantis, Jake Cuenca as Loki, and John Lloyd Cruz as Iron Man.
“Last year (2017) dahil tapos na ang season 7 ng Game of Thrones, nang mabalitaan kong may Avengers: Infinity Wars na darating this year, sumagi na naman sa isip ko paano kaya kung Filipino celebritites ang gaganap? (Na wag na tayong umasa kasi malabo......malabo pa sa pag-asang babalik pa siya saýo. haha joke),” Villeza explained on Facebook on why he decided to draw the stars in Avenger costumes.
He called his own set of Pinoy Avengers, “Mga Tagapaghiganti.”
“Ang pagpili ng mga artista ay base sa opinyon ko lamang,” he said as disclaimer.
Apart from “Avengers” characters, Villeza also presented Kate Valdez as Teen Titan Raven and Daniel Padilla as Teen Titan Robin.
Although Liza Soberano could no longer play “Darna” due to a finger injury, she has been assigned a new character — as Teen Titan Starfire.
Villeza's drawings have been a hit among netizens, with some of the characters drawing over 10,000 likes and about 140,000 shares.
