MANILA, Philippines — OPM icon Rico Blanco called out local artists and managers to be more professional when confirming for a gig.
On Twitter, the former Rivermaya frontman said artists and managers have the responsibility to honor a commitment even if a bigger gig comes along.
“Listen artists and managers, when you confirm a gig, no matter how small, you have a responsibilty to HONOR your commitment even if a another gig comes along later on,” Rico wrote.
“It's a very small scene—ditching a small gig four a bigger one is very unprofessional and makes you look really cheap,” he added.
The man behind OPM hits such as “Yugto,” “Antukin,” and “Your Universe,” to name a few recalled an occasion where he passed on a better opportunity because he was already committed.
“I gave up the opportunity of touring the US and UK and recording with @wheatus in '05 to come home and do one SEA Games gig,” he said.
“Yes, it was painfully hard to fathom and accept but I did it anyway. I have not flaked on a single gig/guesting for 26 years and counting. It's about principles,” he added.
