Marvel to release first Filipino superhero
MANILA, Philippines — In time for International Women’s Day last March 8, a Marvel comic book writer announced the arrival of a new comic book superhero — a Filipina named Wave.
Greg Pak, a comic book writer and filmmaker, introduced Wave via Twitter.
As announced at @sxsw, I'm thrilled to share the great @leinilyu's stunning design of WAVE, Marvel's new Filipino superhero! Gorgeous colors by @sunnygho! She'll appear for the first time in WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 in May, with art by Gang-Hyuk Lim! pic.twitter.com/cZhwXbQ1FG

Designed and co-created by Filipino comic book artist Leinil Francis Yu, Wave will debut in “War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1,” the first of four “War of the Realms” issues to be released in May.
Described by Marvel as “a mysterious new Filipino heroine,” Wave has a very identifiable Filipino “morena” skin, adorned by green and gold costume and weapons.
According to Pak, Wave will save the world together with new heroes from China, Aero and Sword Master.
In another post, Pak thanked everyone for the “huge response” to Wave, “Marvel's new Filipina superhero.”

Huge thanks to @leinilyu, who co-created & designed her, @sunnygho, who colored the cover, and Gang-Hyuk Lim, who's drawing the book! pic.twitter.com/rhBahXn1zj
