MANILA, Philippines — Filipino rock icon Joey “Pepe” Smith passed away early on Monday. He was 71.

His daughter, Daisy Smith-Owen, posted on her Facebook a photo of her and her father in tribute.

“Thank you for being the best dad in the world. I know you’re in the best place now, no more pains, papa,” she added.

Smith was rushed to the hospital early morning on Monday, January 28.

Last November 2017, Smith was also rushed to the hospital after suffering a stroke. It was his third.

Smith was a member of the Juan de la Cruz Band, who are considered pioneers of Pinoy rock. Among their hits are “Beep Beep,” “Balong Malalim,” and "Himig Natin".
