EXO’s Kai, BLACKPINK’s Jennie break up — report
MANILA, Philippines — EXO’s Kai and BLACKPINK’s Jennie have decided to go their separate ways.
Kai’s agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed the breakup Friday, according to a report by Soompi.com.
“It is true that Kai and Jennie have recently parted ways,” SM Entertainment was quoted as saying. The agency, however, did not disclose the time or reason for their breakup.
As of writing, Jennie's agency, YG Entertainment, has yet to issue a statement.
The breakup of Kai and Jennie—who both belong to two of South Korea’s most popular K-pop acts—came less than a month after their relationship was made public by local news tabloid Dispatch.
On January 1, Dispatch released photos of the two artists apparently dating at a park and going for a late night drive.
The dating news became a hot topic on social media as some agencies in South Korea have strict dating regulations for K-pop idols. In Korean entertainment industry, fans even consider dating news as "scandals," prompting celebrities who have found love to hide their relationship from the public.
Kai, whose real name is Kim Jongin, is the main dancer of Chinese-Korean EXO. Jennie, on the other hand, is the main rapper of hip-hop girl group BLACKPINK.
The talented foursome is set to perform in the Philippines for the first time on February 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
