‘Mahal namin kayo': ‘You’ stars Penn Badgley, Shay Mitchell try speaking in Filipino
MANILA, Philippines — The stars of hit Netflix original series “You,” Penn Badgley and Shay Mitchell, on Monday charmed the Philippine press when they tried speaking in Filipino.
During the In Conversation with You event, Penn and Shay were taught how to speak Filipino phrase “Mahal namin kayo” or we love you.
The two stars gamely obliged and even blurted out the Filipino phrase while making a “Korean heart” gesture.
“Mahal namin kayo” (we love you),” Penn and Shay simultaneously said while extending a Korean heart for the press present during the panel interview.
“Thanks for being supportive and watching the show,” Penn added.
Penn is visiting Manila for the first time while Shay who has a Filipino blood is here in the country for the third time now.
They are here in Manila to promote their psychological thriller “You” which was based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name. This series has been granted a second season late this year.

Penn plays Joe Goldberg, a long-time manager at boutique bookstore Mooney’s, while Shay plays Peach Salinger, a controlling rich friend of Joe’s love interest Beck, portrayed by Elizabeth Lail.
These two actors are set to meet their fans at The Greenbelt Gallery in Greenbelt 5, Makati City on Tuesday afternoon. The special fan event will be set like Mooney’s, the fictional bookstore where Penn’s “You” character works.
