Christian adjusts to married life

Christian Bautista stars once again with Julie Anne San Jose in The Sweetheart and the Balladeer: Fun Night Only on Jan. 27 at the Iloilo Convention Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City and on Feb. 10 at The Atrium, Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro.

MANILA, Philippines — Christian Bautista, who recently shifted status from being single to becoming spouse to Kat Ramnani, obviously agrees with the fact that the experience of committing one’s self to and settling down with another person can truly change one’s personality, not to mention lifestyle, for better or worse.

In his case, marriage brings in a lot of things, including a positive change. Christian loves the idea of sharing with his wife the nature of his profession as a singer and making decisions together as to the kind of projects to accept. Kat must have known by now that being in showbiz has an erratic work schedule more often than not.

“Every decision now, it has to be with my wife all the time because for me that’s what marriage is all about. It’s not just my decision or hers anymore. Whatever it is or whatever roles, whether in showbiz or not, in my life or hers, kaming dalawa na ang nagde-decide and whatever comes in our life, we really talk about it,” said Christian during the media call to drumbeat his and Julie Anne San Jose’s GMA regional concert titled The Sweetheart and the Balladeer: Fun Night Only, on Jan. 27 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. It is the Kapuso Concerts’ maiden offering this year in collaboration with the network’s regional arm GMA Regional TV, GMA Entertainment Group and GMA Pinoy TV.

Christian and Kat tied the knot last November in Bali, Indonesia and, understandably, showbiz watchers are curious as to when they will have a baby.

He said, “Probably, after two years because it is important for us to have a more stable bond first. So, it will be just the two of us for now.”

The singer also revealed that the guide to maintaining a harmonious marital relationship came from a mentor who shared that marriage is beautiful. “So sometimes, there really has to be limitation and that’s fine with me.”

Christian is certain that his wife and a lot of people are not opposed to the idea of him reuniting once again with Julie Anne on the concert stage. In fact, it excites him no end.

“We are very comfortable with each other since we both know and are already familiar with each other’s moves. But we assure everyone that this year, we will be making new combinations. As I’ve said, kami ni Julie alam na namin ang galaw namin but with Josh Adornado and Golden Cañedo on stage with us, that I think will add spice to our show. Plus, the fun part will be provided by Super Tekla and Donita (Nose) through songs and dance so we are excited over this new combination.”

Since the concert is a pre-Valentine show of sorts, the audience will be treated to songs that talk about love. Christian shared that people will experience different levels of love through songs like first love, innocent kind of love, heartbreak and inspirational.

“It’s normal, that’s life. There will come a time that someone will come out as equally talented as Josh and Golden. Josh is an amazing singer and I believe he’s better than me. During the contest (GMA 7’s The Clash where he sat as one of the judges), wala akong masabing mali sa kanya kasi ’pag kumakanta siya, wow I was impressed. So, what I need to do now is help bring these guys to the next level, bring them to the world so other people can see how great they are.”

Christian is secure with his stature that he is willing to share the spotlight with the newbie singers.

“A spotlight is just really one light. Sometimes, it’s your spot then it can be panned to others but it can also go back to you. It’s better to think how to share the stage with others and not just, say, to me because I don’t think it would be beneficial to the show. Besides, I was also once a beginner.”
