MANILA, Philippines — Director Joel Lamangan’s “Rainbow’s Sunset” was the big winner at the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival’s Gabi ng Parangal on Thursday night held at the Theater in Solaire.

A story about a gay elderly couple, the film starring Eddie Garcia received 11 awards including Best Picture, Best Director Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Original Theme Song and acting trophies.

Gloria Romero bagged the Best Actress trophy while Tony Mabesa and Aiko Melendez won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Eddie Garcia and Max Collins also received the Special Jury Prize for the film. 

Yam Laranas’ “Aurora” received five awards including Second Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography and Best Child Performer for Phoebe Villamor.

The trio of Vic Sotto, Maine Mendoza and Coco Martin’s movie "Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles" received three awards including Best Float, Best Editing and the FPJ Memorial Award while Regal Film’s “One Great Love” received Third Best Picture, Best Musical Score and Best Actor for Dennis Trillo. 

Bulacan State University’s “Kasilyas” won the Best Short Student Film.

“The Girl in the Orange Dress” actor Jericho Rosales and “Aurora” actress Anne Curtis bagged the Star of the Night. 

Other movies in the film fest but didn’t receive any awards include “Otlum,” “Mary, Marry Me” and “Fantastica: The Princess, The Prince and The Perya.”
