MANILA, Philippines — A month after making a historic walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, Filipina-American model Kelsey Merritt shared she was not spared from receiving a comment about her weight.
“Sabi ni lola tumaba daw ako,” Merritt captioned her Instagram story of a photo of her and her grandmother posted on Christmas eve. She accompanied the caption with laughing emojis.
Filipino reunions are known for having conversation openers on unsolicited comments about appearances and weight as well as leaving personal questions on love lives and having children.
She did not specify if her grandmother’s comment was made in jest but she is sharing how happy she is to be home.
Merritt, who now resides in New York City after being the first ever Filipina model to walk in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show is in the country to spend the holidays with her family and loved ones.
“So nice to be back home with family,” she tweeted.
