MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe 2018 Philippine bet Catriona Gray represented the country's three major island groups in the national costume competition in Thailand Monday night.

Catriona rolled around a "parol" or a giant Christmas lantern, which represents Luzon. According to her designer Jearson Demavivas, the parol called "Magdiwang" or "celebrate" with a brass border design was made in Apalit, Pampanga.

At the back of the lantern is a painting with inscription of the lyrics from "Lupang Hinirang" written in Baybayin.

Her body suit, dubbed "Lumaban," with tattoo designs used by the "Pintados" or tattooed warriors represent Visayas.

"The tattoos represent an individual’s journey and a public testimony recounting acts of combat, bravery, and strength, that perfectly represents the courageous and resilient Filipino spirit amidst trials we face in this day and age," Demavivas said in an instagram post.

The Philippine bet wore headpiece and brass accessories called "Pagyamanin" or enrich, which came from South Cotabato province. Her headdress and knee-high boots with embroidered designs inspired by the Inaul, Yakan, Maranao, B'laan, Bagobo, Tausug and T'nalak represent Mindanao. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
