Scenes of unrivalled savagery never before seen on the local screen,’ the action-drama was hyped.

In 1957, Paraluman and Van de Leon starred in an action-drama set in the South, Harangan man ng Sibat. Paraluman played a Muslim princess and Van a warrior.

‘Scenes of unrivalled savagery never before seen on the local screen,’ the action-drama was hyped. Serialized in Espesyal Komiks, the film was written by Francisco V. Coching (later named National Artist for Visual Arts), with screenplay and direction by Conrado Conde and music by Dick Zamora. Produced by Sampaguita Pictures, where Van and Paraluman were contract artists.

Van excelled in vida/contravida roles. He was FAMAS Best Actor for Taga sa Bato and Kamandag, both produced by Sampaguita. His third FAMAS is for Best Supporting Actor for Batingaw.

Paraluman was FAMAS Best Actress for Sino ang Maysala?, also produced by Sampaguita.

In the cast of Harangan man ng Sibat were Luis Gonzales, Barbara Perez, Daisy Romualdez and Vito Galla.— RKC
