The ‘hitch’ between Zanjoe & Maja

Zanjoe Marudo and Maja Salvador look good together. They are friends and since both are single and loveless, they are not discounting the possibility of them falling in love with each other.

However, there’s a hitch that makes Maja uncomfortable about getting their friendship to the next level. Their respective past loves had something to do with it. “I have to admit na okay sana kaso ‘yung mga ex namin (laughs),” said Maja on the chances of going steady with Zanjoe. She was speaking in a joint interview with Zanjoe on Tonight with Boy Abunda a few nights ago. “Let’s be honest, s’yempre sa ibang tao (sasabihin nila), ‘Ang weird naman nag-palitan.’ I must admit if it didn’t happen, if you (referring to Zanjoe) came before him, okay sana.”

Then Zanjoe teasingly posed a hypothetical question, “So, hindi na p’wede?” with Maja answering with “gusto mo?”

Although the ABS-CBN actress didn’t mention any names, she was clearly referring to Gerald Anderson and Bea Alonzo. Maja broke up with Gerald in 2015 after going steady for two years. Gerald is now romantically involved with Bea who had a four-year affair with Zanjoe.

Their frequent out-of-the-country shows together led Zanjoe and Maja to become BFFs with the former citing an instance that reflected the latter’s genuine concern.

“There was one situation and Maj (as how Maja is fondly called) needed to assist me. She didn’t leave me until I was okay,” the actor recalled with Maja adding that it was also at that point when she realized how much he means to her as a friend “kasi may concern na tipong di mo kayang wala ka doon (sa oras na ‘yun).”

There was even a time during their shooting of To Love Some Buddy when Zanjoe felt awkward doing a scene with the actress. “I didn’t know why I was too shy at that time.”

Probably, Maja said, a lot had happened during the course of the shoot that involved personal matters. In her case, her love life ended. She’s been loveless for eight months now, which, seemingly, is why Maja all the more looks radiant these days.

“I also have time for myself,” agreed Zanjoe and added, “because if you’re in a relationship, you’ll run out of time (for yourself).”

Does it really mean they won’t take their friendship to another level? I asked again.

“There’s a spark but it’s really something weird,” stressed Maja who, by the way, was named Best Actress at the Urduja Film Festival 2018 for her acting performance in I’m Drunk, I Love You.

Zanjoe: ‘Yung pagtatakpan ako because it’s not right for somebody to tell about my wrongdoing to my partner.

Maja: ‘Yung pagtatakpan ako pero ako ‘yung aamin sa kasalanan ko.

Somebody with money or somebody sexy?

Zanjoe: Somebody sexy.

Maja: Somebody sexy.

Somebody to cry with or somebody to laugh with?

Maja: Both.

Zanjoe: Somebody to cry with because it’s not easy to find someone na kaya mong umiyak sa harap n’ya.

Somebody na magaling humalik o somebody na mahusay magmasahe?

Maja: Somebody who will massage me.

Zanjoe: Me, I prefer a good kisser because you can get a good massage (at the spa) but you can’t just kiss anybody.
