MANILA, Philippines — “Feels so great to be back in the Philippines!” five-time Grammy-award winner Mariah Carey exclaimed after opening her 2018 concert in Manila on October 26 at the Araneta Coliseum.

There was no front act in the concert, which kicked-off with the reprise from Carey’s late ‘90s hit “Butterfly.” With images of flower petals raining, the giant LED backdrop split into half, revealing a Barbie-like Carey in an immaculate, fringy white outfit as she opened the concert with “Honey.”

The “Songbird Supreme” then followed it up with an excerpt from “Shake It Off,” then made the audience dance with a medley of her songs “Make It Happen,” “Sweetheart,” “Say Somethin’,” “Loverboy” and “Dream lover.”

She then changed to a high-slit, yellow outfit as she sang “Fantasy.”

Filipino Mariah fans or “lambily” (or “lambs” for short) sang along with their idol when she came up with “Always Be My Baby” and “Vision of Love.”

Mariah made her Filipino lambs shriek in excitement whenever she would display her Guinness World Record-breaking, five-octave vocal range and bird-like belting out during numbers such as “Emotions,” “Beautiful,” and “Love Hangover / Heartbreaker.”

She also teased Filipinos with Boyz II Men’s upcoming December 15 concert at the Araneta Coliseum by performing her collaboration song with the boyband, “One Sweet Day,” which still holds the record of being the longest-running Billboard Hot #1 song of all time.

Likewise, Filipino lambs held their breath as Carey gave a new flavor and arrangement to another Filipino karaoke and contest piece staple, the sexy and romantic “My All.”

She bonded with her fans even more and chose one of them to perform “Touch My Body” on the stage with her. She chose a lamb wearing a customized shirt of her upcoming album and world tour, “Caution.”

Although she did not sing her classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in time for the upcoming holidays, she came out in a very Christmas-like, glittery gown for her last numbers, which concluded with “Hero,” another Filipino karaoke favorite and one of her most popular songs that elevated her into an icon and biggest-selling female artist of all time.

“Mariah Carey: Live in Concert” was presented in Manila by Wilbros Live.
