MANILA, Philippines — Since singer Inigo Pascual turned 21 last September 14, what can his dad, actor Piolo Pascual, wish for his “unico hijo”?
In an interview with Philstar.com, Piolo shared that he is very proud of Inigo’s successful singing career and being “advanced in his years.”
“But one thing I can be proud about Inigo is that he has kept his heart intact,” Piolo added.
“I don’t have to tell him what to do. We talk every day, day and night. And so if there is anything I always tell him is that I appreciate the fact that especially, a guy his age especially teenager, ‘di na sila lumalapit sa’tin. But with him, I feel extra special because he checks upon me, he tells me what he’s doing, what time he goes home, he’s a blessing. I don’t have any problems with him.”
In his 21 years, Inigo taught Piolo the feeling of being truly loved.
“Sometimes, he reminds me that I’m still a father. Maybe, he worries for me. That he cares enough to realize he wants to know what I’m doing and where I am, how I am. With so many people in my busy work, he always makes me realize that he’s there. He waits for me and wants me to be safe at all times.”
Inigo, said Piolo, usually asks for advice for his faith, and so besides that, the actor always tells his son to not forget his family and life’s purpose.
“I’m not a stage father. If he thinks something is right and if he knows he could do it, I let him. I don’t sugarcoat stuff. I don’t discourage him to fall. I want him to learn from his mistakes. I want him to go through life the way he has to go through life.”
Piolo shared that he and Inigo loves to bond over food. Whenever they are at home and since they do not know how to cook, they just toss a can of Mega Sardines into a pot, heat it, and eat it straight with rice. He said they also like their sardines in other flavors such as Spanish-style, in natural oil, tausi, extra hot, and fried, and served with bread or pasta.
His 21st birthday wish for Inigo is to be with him for a long time.
“My only wish is just to be here as he goes out there to give everything he got,” enthused Piolo.
“Never forget the people around you. Always be humble and pray and never forget your roots,” he advised his son.
“I’d like to pray for us to stay with the closeness and for him to know that I’ll always be around no matter what happens. I will always be his friend… I will always be his biggest fan.” — Video by Kat Leandicho
