MANILA, Philippines — American R&B and jazz group Tower Of Power performed for the first time in the country on September 7 at the Araneta Coliseum to mark their 50th anniversary in the industry.

The California-based band that started in 1968 serenaded and amazed fans as they played their greatest hits.

They began their performance with “We Came To Play” and “Soul With A Capital S” and “You Ought To Be Having Fun,” to set the mood for the night for a throwback party.

The group also performed “Only So Much Oil In the Ground,” “On the Sould Side of Town,” “This Time It's Real,” “You're Still A Young Man,” and “Sparkling in the Sand,” to name a few.

The concert was a part of their world tour to promote their new album, “Soul Side of Town.” The album reached the top of Billboard US's Jazz Albums and Contemporary Jazz Album charts this month.

Hawaiian group Kalapana opened the concert, followed by American musician Dennis Lambert, to the delight of the audience that included celebrities Martin Nievera and Jaclyn Jose.

Tower Of Power 50th Anniversary Tour featuring Dennis Lambert and Kalapana was produced by Ovation Productions.
