Darren Espanto happy to represent people with diabetes

MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya singer and now actor Darren Espanto is happy to portray diabetic people through his role in the blockbuster movie “The Hows of Us.”

On his Twitter account, Darren posted how people with diabetes came to him after the premiere night of their movie.

It’s touching to have people with diabetes actually come up to me after the movie and tell me how much they could relate to my character Yohan. #TheHowOfUs #TheHowOfUsNowShowing

“It’s touching to have people with diabetes actually come up to me after the movie and tell me how much they could relate to my character, Yohan,” he wrote. 

In an interview with Philstar.com during the movie’s thanksgiving, after the movie earned a whopping P35.9 million on its first day, Darren said it felt amazing how he touched those people.

“Sa premiere night marami pong nag-mention na they really have their insulin taken every day. Minsan kailangan talagang tusukin palagi ‘yung finger to get the blood test, so sobrang cool din na talagang may na-touch kang mga tao,” he said.

“Mas naging malawak ‘yung kaalaman ko sa mga taong diabetic and also ‘yung hirap na they have to go through every day also depends kung anong type yung diabetes nila. Minsan mahirap ‘yung sa iba,” he added. 

Since it is his first time to act in a film, the singer said he is willing to act again if given a chance.

“Tumaas ang respeto ko sa mga tao sa set ng isang pelikula. For me po, it’s very different from singing talaga. Kailangan mo ibigay sa acting ‘yung kailangan mo ng ibigay sa singing. So if an opportunity like this comes again, I’d like to try it again.”
