Will a Kapuso hot property be lured to be Kapamilya?
Curtain-raisers:
• Quotable quote 1 (Sam Claflin, photo, on exposing his children on social media, in a Reader’s Digest interview): …The one thing that’s always been important to my wife and I is that we won’t plaster their faces on Instagram because if they want to become hermits, they have that opportunity without us choosing for them.
• Quotable quote 2 (Robert Redford, photo, on aging and eschewing plastic surgery as he announced his retirement at age 82, in a People magazine story): For many, it’s become a sick obsession — they lose some of their soul when they go under the knife and end up looking body-snatched. People should preserve their time in history. I’m happy to make the best of what I’ve got.
• Stardom, or a semblance of it, has a way of lifting a star into Cloud 9, heady with false pride. Since he has been getting “heavy” roles, a certain actor has grown proportionally swell-headed, thus a problem to his manager. During his “struggling” days, he would jump at any offer for a pittance. Not anymore. Now he says no to a P300,000 offer to sing three songs at an event.
* * *
Unless her present home studio makes a counter offer, a hot Kapuso property just might jump ober da bakod to the Kapamilya side. A Funfare source said that as soon as she’s done with the projects she has signed up for, the star will start negotiating with the Kapamilya bigwigs. A few years back, she was rumored to be making “that move” (the Funfare source’s words) but she was prevailed upon by management to stay put.
This time around, will somebody close to her convince her to follow in his footsteps to the Kapamilya camp?
Stand by and wait until her current projects are over and check what she will be saying.
“I overheard two Kapuso executives talking about the matter very seriously,” said the Funfare source. “One of them is behind the star’s show and she’s worried that the star might be tempted to make ‘that move’.”
10 things to love about Crazy Rich Asians
Henry Golding is a charmer par excellence in Crazy Rich Asians.
There have been some changes in the movie version of Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians. If you have read the book and have watched the movie, you should know what those changes were.
Meanwhile, here are 10 things to love about the movie:
Made for a reportedly only $30M, the movie has so far grossed over $82.7M (as of Tuesday, Aug. 28), opening at No. 1, making it Warner Bros.’ biggest opening weekend this 2018 and biggest opening weekend for a foreign/English rom-com of all time.
Henry Golding is a charmer par excellence personified as Nick Young, described by a female fan (who watched the movie with us) as “makalaglag-panty.” Aptly put.
Nico Santos, the only Filipino in the main cast, is a delight to watch, blending beautifully with Singapore’s wealthiest in his role as Oliver. It is said that he ad-libbed some of his lines. Makes you proud to be a Pinoy.
If you’ve been to Singapore, you feel some kind of “affinity” to and familiarity with the locations such as Fullerton Hotel, the Garden By The Bay, the food market and the infinity pool of the Marina Bay Sands where the engagement of Nick Young (Henry Holding) and Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) was filmed. Mind-boggling!!!
Awkwafina, Nico Santos and Constance Wu in a scene from the movie
One of the uniformed maids who rush to carry the shopping bags of Astrid Leong-Teo (Gemma Chan) is a Filipina. Can you spot which one?
Michelle Yeoh’s portrayal as Eleanor Young, Nick’s mom who disapproves of Rachel, is tour de force worthy of a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
Last seen in Oceans 8, Awkwafina (as Goh Peik Lin) is a heart-warming scene-stealer without her trying to. Three cheers!!!
The movie’s Cinderella angle is appealing to romantics who love happily-ever-after stories.
The wedding scene makes you exclaim “Wow!!!” The scene between Rachel and her mom will make you tear up. The scene in which Eleanor finally accepts Rachel will make you break into applause (but don’t do that lest you scandalize those around you).
Nick’s proposal to Rachel on the plane is so memorable, makes you so happy for them that you want to enfold them in a big hug.
About time Ivan given a big break

“I consider it a great privilege to be trusted with 24 Oras Weekend,” said Ivan. “I know it’s a big responsibility to anchor the flagship newscast of GMA News and Public Affairs, pero tiwala ako na kaya ko itong tapatan ng karanasan, sipag, at dedikasyon.”
For her part, Pia, looks forward to working again with Ivan. The two had worked together on Unang Hirit and 100% Pinoy.
