Alice Dixson's birthday getaway in Boracay gets mixed reactions
MANILA, Philippines (Updated 8:49 p.m.) — Actress Alice Dixson over the weekend celebrated her 49th birthday in a getaway in Boracay amid the island’s closure.
Alice’s birthday was on July 28.
She documented her birthday vacation on her Instagram. “Capturing this moment that will NEVER happen again!!! My birthday all alone on Boracay beach front,” Alice wrote in one of her posts with the tagged location as Station 1, Balabag, Boracay.
Dixson also showed how Boracay looks like now that it is under rehabilitation with establishments closed down.
Her posts showing the serene Boracay prompted mixed reactions from online users who questioned how she was able to visit the island despite the temporary closure to tourists.
The island was closed to tourists last April 26 to pave way for its rehabilitation.
“I thought Boracay is closed to the public???,” Instagram user jobenille18 wrote.
While some questioned how Dixson was able to enter Boracay, some also defended her by saying she probably has an identification card.
“Natatawa na [lang] ako sa mga comments dito bakit nakapasok si Miss Alice.... if [you’re] a property owner, may company ID, terminal ID, local resident or part of the rehabilitation program, you can get in Boracay,” online user heartyjoy wrote.
'Dixson wife of resort exec'
Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay, the hotel Dixson stayed in, however, released a statement on Tuesday saying that she is considered a Boracay resident as she is the wife of a top executive of the resort. The resort also pointed out that it is not violating any government regulation regarding the closure as it is not accepting and entertaining guests at the resort.
"Chroma Hospitality, Inc., the management company of Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay, reiterates that the resort is in full compliance to the closure and rehabilitation order for Boracay Island pursuant to Executive Order 53 series of 2018," the statement read.
"Ms. Dixson is the wife of a top executive of Crimson Resort & Spa Boracay. They are both residents of the island with proper documentation. This has been confirmed and verified during an inquiry done by the Department of Interior and Local Government."
The name of Dixson's husband, however, was not disclosed. A report by ABS-CBN, noted that this was the first time the actress has been referred to as married since her divorce in 2013.
With the implementation of Boracay closure, only residents and workers are allowed to get in and out of the island.
Members of the media covering the rehabilitation of the island are also asked to secure a permit from the Department of Tourism while visitors of residents are not allowed entry except during emergency and with clearance from the security committee. —Rosette Adel
