MANILA, Philippines — For the 16th time since its inaugural pageant in 2001, international beauty pageant Miss Earth will be held again in the Philippines this coming October 6 to November 3.

The pageant already posted a video teaser of the event on its Facebook page as netizens clamor that the annual international competition will be held in Boracay, which will be re-opened to the public in October 26.

The people behind the environment-themed beauty pageant promoting environmental awareness, however, still have no announcement where it is to be held in the country.

Vietnam and Austria are the only countries that hosted the beauty contest apart from the Philippines.

Filipino-Italian and Miss Earth Philippines 2018 Sylvia Celeste Cortesi is gunning for a back-to-back win for the Philippines since Karen Ibasco bagged the crown last year.

The Philippines already produced four Miss Earth winners: Karla Henry in 2008, Jamie Herrel in 2014, Angelia Ong in 2015 and Ibasco in 2017.

Kapuso actor John Estrada's wife, actress Priscilla Meirelles, also won the pageant back in 2004.

The titleholders are tasked to dedicate their reign to promote specific projects and address issues concerning the environment.
