Comedy is not just about getting laughs, but it also changes what we think or, maybe, even what we do. This is true when you talk to Bayani Agbayani or when you just simply watch him on screen. He has a delightful humor and an optimistic approach to life.
His witty remarks are not plain punchlines but also reflect intelligence. During one of the episodes of I Can See Your Voice, for example, Luis Manzano admired how Bayani could quickly turn a serious situation into “a put your trouble away” mode and adding wisdom to whatever topic they discuss without veering away from fun. That’s why, Bayani must have been born to make people laugh. He became a household name in the late ‘90s to early 2000s for his natural comedic flair. And after a brief hiatus from showbiz, Bayani is back funnier than ever. He is now regularly seen on Cinemo’s Funny Ka Pare Ko and in the ABS-CBN weekend show I Can See Your Voice.
“My becoming part of I Can See Your Voice was just an accident,” he said with a straight face. “Kean (Cipriano) was absent and so I temporarily took his place until they decided for me to stay.”
If you haven’t heard yet about his Aswang ang Nanay Ko joke which gone viral with two million views, try watching it on YouTube to experience the kind of humor only Bayani can deliver. No wonder, he again won this year’s KBP Golden Dove Best Actor for Comedy award.
Bayani said that he prays to God before coming to the show. “Sa lahat ng guestings, sobrang nagdadasal ako sa Diyos ng, ‘Bigyan Mo ako ng magandang joke.’ Kaya lahat ng binibitiwan ko na joke ay galing sa Kanya, biyaya ng Diyos.” He also prays not to allow his every joke to turn out offensive to other people.
The comedian also makes sure not to make anyone a subject of mockery whenever he drops a joke. Bayani has a lot of funny stories about his childhood years with his dear mother whom he adores. He is the youngest and the only thorn among six children. “Me and my mom are always together having fun because we always laugh at each other’s joke. Nagbibiruan kami kaya masaya kami lagi pag magkasama.”
Now that he is a dad to wonderful daughters — Thalia, Rosalinda, Mary Mar and Sabrina, Bayani feels blessed for being able to raise them well. He always reminds his daughters to be respectful to everyone.
Aside from I Can See Your Voice and Funny Ka Pare Ko, Bayani is also part of the mid-morning series Sana Dalawa Ang Puso topbilled by Jodi Santamaria, Robin Padilla and Richard Yap. By his own words, Bayani revealed that Richard is among the few who seldom laughs. “For three days, I never saw him laugh and I asked him if something’s bothering him and he told me nobody’s perfect.”
Asked how would he rate himself as a husband to Lenlen, Bayani confidently gave a perfect score of 10. One could easily sense how loving he is to his wife after telling that their love for each other gets stronger as days go by.
“We laugh and do things together. But it is not true that I am scared of her but the truth is, I love her so much.”

The branch head said that the shows not only cater to the older market but also to millennials. “Before, the main audiences of our shows were the casino guests who were already here. But the crowd changed when we featured different artists and began inviting different groups. We’re happy with the outcome because more Cebuanos will have the chance to see their favorite artists. There’s no need to go to Manila to watch them perform,” Ricardo expressed.
