Twitter pays homage to #AlDub3Years

MANILA, Philippines — In time for the third anniversary of Filipino phenomenal love team AlDub, Twitter has released a timeline and highlights of the couple’s engagement with its fans through the years.

It has been three years since the camera caught a fresh face Maine Mendoza gushing over Alden Richards during Eat Bulaga’s “Juan for All, All for Juan” segment. This marked the birth of AlDub which has set world records through Twitter.

AlDub Nation from different parts of the world have been flocking Twitter to share their support and hopes as the couple celebrated its third anniversary, generating nearly two million related Tweets. The conversation surrounding it peaked at around 11 a.m. on July 16 with 150,000 Tweets per minute.

As popular icons with millions of fans from all around the world, this couple is surely no stranger to social media. Both Maine and Alden have been using Twitter to connect with their fans. Alden usually updates his fans about his projects like his upcoming teleserye, “Victor Magtanggol.” Maine stays engaged with followers by sharing witty and personal Tweets apart from her professional endeavors.

Their accounts have grown significantly along with the popularity of the love team, whether they are together or as do projects separately in the past three years. Combined, the two have accumulated more than 9.8 million followers globally as of writing.

Maine is the only Filipino to be included in the Most Tweeted Celebrities in 2017 global list. She landed on the 5th spot along with K-Pop artists Bangtan Boys a.k.a. BTS at 1st place, Seventeen at 2nd, “Havana” singer Camila Cabello at 3rd, and Justin Bieber at 4th place.

On October 24, 2015, #AlDubEBTamangPanahon set the Guinness record as the most used hashtag generating more than 40 million Tweets within 24 hours. It broke another record previously set by the World Cup's Germany versus Brazil match in 2014, which pulled in 35.6 million Tweets.

Despite AlDub not being together on-screen as often as before, the love, loyalty and dedication of the AlDub Nation remains steadfast and unchallenged. The fan army illustrates they #StillLoveAlDub every time they Tweet updates on the couple’s milestones and activities, together or separately.
