Laurenti Dyogi: ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ love teams not scripted

MANILA, Philippines — Is “Pinoy Big Brother” scripted?

Laurenti Dyogi, TV Production Head of ABS-CBN, addressed speculations while waiting for his flight in Naga City for the touring audition caravan “Star Hunt.”

In his latest vlog published in July 3 on YouTube, the director said that the allegation that PBB is “scripted” is an “unfair statement.”

"Kung alam niyo lang kung gaano kahirap mag-audition.'Yung oras na ginugugol namin. Nagrereklamo na asawa ko, nagrereklamo na boss ko. Hirap talaga ng analogy natin na para kang naghahanap ng karayom sa haystack. Kasi sinasabi na ang daming napipili, may mga bali-balita na may mga managers na 'yung iba," he said.

Laurenti said Jameson Blake was already doing commercials when he tried out auditioning for PBB. He was spotted in Baguio during Panagbenga Festival when the production head sent out his staff to scout potential housemates in the area.

"Well, kay Jameson, ang kwento naman nun, like 'pag nagpupunta kami sa isang lugar like Baguio, may pinapapunta na ako 'O, mag-scout kayo punta kayo sa mall' tapos 'pag may nahanap na sila, dadalhin na nila sa audition venue. That's how Jameson was spotted at Baguio," he stated.

He also said that Joshua Garcia is an obvious choice when the actor auditioned in Marikina even though he is from Batangas.

"Pero kanina ang interesting na pinag-uusapan natin is sino ba 'yung obvious and hindi obvious na choices. Like we were talking about Joshua. Marikina 'yun eh. Nung umalis ako nun, naiwan kayo," he said.

Likewise, he denied that PBB’s love teams are also “scripted.”

“Para sabihing scripted ang PBB, sobrang galing naman namin as a director and writers para ma-script namin na magkakagustuhan ang mga taong ‘to. Hindi namin naiisip ang mga bagay na ‘yan. Nalalaman lang namin ‘yan sa unang araw ‘pag nagtagpo-tagpo ang mga housemate.”

He assured that though the housemates might see each other while still on audition, they do not get to know each other even after they have been finalized and shortlisted.

“Kung sino ‘yung mga napagsasama-sama namin sa bahay, ‘yun ‘yung mga hindi namin naprepredict.”

Hence, what the audience sees between love teams like Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson then and Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber now is natural chemistry, he said.

Even the director is amazed at how these strangers from foreign lands, like Maymay from Cagayan de Oro and Edward from Germany, would click, become friends, and might eventually become more than friends.

“There’s magic para mapagtagpo namin ang mga tao,” he enthused.

"It's really the joy of finding that someone na matutulungan namin para makamtan niya ang kanyang panagrap, serbisyo po namin sa 'yun sa tao, wala naman po kaming komisyon kung sino man ang sumisikat. And our decisions are right and wrong.” — Reports from Deni Rose M. Afinidad-Bernardo, video from Youtube/Direk Lauren Dyogi
