Why Gian was ‘missing’

No, Gian Magdangal didn’t disappear into oblivion as some people must have suspected. So why was he “missing” for quite a spell now?

“In 2014,” Gian revealed in this “sexy talk,” “I was cast in the Hong Kong Disneyland long-running show The Golden Mickeys as Captain Shang, one of the closing cast members in Mulan. Shortly after that, I became part of the opening cast members of the new show, Mickey and the Wondrous Book, as the Genie in Aladdin.

“The same year, I recorded and performed the theme song for the launch of Hong Kong Disneyland’s 10th-anniversary celebration and sang for its numerous special events for the park around Hong Kong, including the Victoria Harbor.

“After Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016, I was contracted by Universal Studios Japan as one of the main singers for its Special Events team.”

It was in Hong Kong where, according to Gian, he met his girlfriend Melissa Bell, an Australian who was also in the Golden Mickeys show and in Lion King, both as a dancer. Until last year, Melissa was also a performer in Universal Studios Japan.

“We are based in Manila for the time being,” said Gian who has a child with ex-girlfriend Sheree.

Gian is in the cast of the musical Ang Huling El Bimbo (inspired by the Eraserheads hit song) as Hector, a successful Balikbayan film director who is coping with the conflicts he encountered in his younger years with his close friends Emman and Anthony (played by Jon Santos and OJ Mariano). The musical opens on July 20 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.

“Hector hopes to give back to the industry where he started as a young boy from UP and to fix an unresolved conflict with his friends,” explained Gian, adding, that he grew up on Eraserheads songs also including Alapaap, Torpedo, Huwag Mo Nang Itanong Sa Akin, Balikbayan Box, Magasin, Overdrive, Ligaya and Minsan, his favorite.
