MANILA, Philippines — When it comes to bashers, is Regine Velasquez a “patola”?
Regine, during her recent launch as new Jollibee endorser, laughed when Philstar.com shared to her the meaning of “patola” in social media terms: one who fights back at bashers.

According to the singer-actress, she is not usually a “patola,” but she recalled a time when she had to step up to defend her son, Nate.
She once took a photo of Nate’s baby picture with a big smile and posted it on Instagram.
“I took a picture and then somebody said, ‘Your son looks like a mongoloid’,” Regine recollected. “Na-hurt talaga ako.”
Instead of fighting back, Regine chose to “correct” the comment.
“So, kinorek ko. Ang sabi ko, ‘My son is not. But the correct term is ‘Down’s Syndrome’,” she said. “My son is not, but if he was, I’d love who he is because he is a gift from God’.”
Regine stressed that she replied to the comment not to fight back.
“’Yung mga ganyang instance I feel that I have as a mom, to correct, hindi ako nakikipag-away. Kasi, ang pangit eh. Gusto ko lang naman ipagtanggol ‘yung anak ko.”
According to her, when there are damaging comments or people in her social media sites, she typically reports or blocks the user and deletes the tirade. — Video by Kat Leandicho
