MANILA, Philippines — Captain America actress Hayley Atwell had once again canceled her trip to the Philippines citing political unrest in the country.
Organizers of the ComicCon Asia on Thursday announced that Atwell, who is known for her role as Agent Peggy in the “Captain America" movies, would no longer make it to their event.
“We wish to inform everyone that Hayley Atwell has decided to cancel her appearance in the 2018 ComicCon Asia due to the perceived ‘political unrest in the country.’ In a message sent to us, Hayley said that 'she is not comfortable making the trip' at this time,” the organizers said in its social media announcement.
Deeply saddened, the organizers also apologized to the fans and assured them that those who purchased the celebrity passes to see Atwell would be fully refunded. Those who want refund may reach the organizers at payment@comiccon.ais.
“We apologize for any trouble this may have caused. We will provide refunds to customers who bought tickets to see Ms. Atwell at the convention,” ComicCon Asia said.
“We wish Hayley the best of luck in her future endeavors,” it added.
Atwell was supposed to have an autograph and photograph session at the ComicCon Asia. The event would be held at the SMX Convention Center on March 24 to 25.
Marvel film producer and comic book writer Stan Lee also announced that he would skip the convention due to health concerns.
In 2016, Atwell also deferred her trip to the Philippines due to conflict of schedule.
Atwell previously starred in "Captain America" movies and "Ant-Man." She was also part of the television series “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and “Black Mirror.”
