MANILA, Philippines — Ever wondered why at 60, Madonna looks someone half her age, and still manages to look smashing in a plunging neckline?
That’s because the Queen of Pop underwent living cell therapy in German doctor Daniel Block’s clinic.
“She’s very open to it,” says Block, who visited Manila recently to talk about his lucrative practice and tie-up with Filipino partners Antonio Valeriano Bernardo and Catherine Joy Serrano, president and country representative, respectively of DSBlock Cell Therapy Phils. Co.
Like Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Pablo Picasso and world leaders South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, the United States’ Harry Truman, Japan’s King Hirohito and France’s Charles de Gaulle among others, Madonna wanted to maintain her youth and slow down the aging process.
Like them, she wanted utmost privacy. So Dr. Block and his team of trained professionals performed the procedure in utmost secrecy.
The procedure involves extracting the cells of very young mountain sheep and injecting them in humans.
“The sheep — thousands of them — live in a natural resort we rent out. It has no houses, no people,” says Dr. Block.

He is proud to add that the sheep feed only on natural ingredients with no chemical agents. Veterinarians check their health regularly.
The staff then chooses the animals that pass Dr. Block’s standards and gets the needed organs from them. The organs are stored in a sterile area in the slaughterhouse and in the lab. Cells from these organs are then prepared for injection purposes.
Why cells from young sheep?
That’s because these living cells from unborn or very young animals are believed to regenerate damaged cells in humans. Thus, a sheep’s liver cells can repair the human liver. The animal’s heart cells can give a person’s aging heart the stamina it needs.
This, Dr. Block learned from Swiss doctor Paul Niehans himself, acknowledged as the founder of cellular therapy.
Bernardo, 53, an engineer by profession, decided to try Dr. Block’s cell therapy himself in mid-2016. He flew to Germany and sought out Dr. Block.
Bernardo underwent cell treatment, not so much for aesthetic purposes, but for physical reasons. He wanted to be fully prepared to handle stress a hectic schedule from new business projects will give.
“I used to wear reading glasses,” he admitted to the press. “After a year and 10 months, I no longer wear glasses during daytime driving.”
So he and Serrano decided to partner with Dr. Block and introduce his brand of living cell therapy to Filipinos and other Asians. Serrano and Bernardo put up DSBlock Cell Therapy Philippines at Room 2407, Vinia Tower, EDSA, Quezon City.
“This is the future,” Serrano explained. “It’s natural. It’s chemical-free and safe.”
