The final airing of La Luna Sangre on primetime TV signaled the start of Richard Gutierrez and fiancée Sarah Lahbati’s preparations for their wedding which will take place this year.
In an interview with Richard in Tonight With Boy Abunda (TWBA), the actor revealed some details of their upcoming wedding and matters concerning their respective parents’ preferences for the special event.
“We’re planning around March and April,” said Richard who portrayed as the antagonist Supremo Sandrino in the ABS-CBN just-concluded series that also starred the Kapamilya loveteam of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. “Napag-usapan na namin initially ni Sarah ‘yung dream set-up namin ng wedding. So, we already have a short list of venue.”
The actor never denied that their parents are wishing for a ceremony to be of the traditional kind with full attendance of family, friends and relatives. But if the couple can have it their own way, they would rather make the ceremony an intimate one.
“Yung parents namin ni Sarah they’re very traditional Filipino, especially our moms. They prefer the wedding here in the Philippines and they want the traditional one where everyone is invited like ‘yung kamag-anak ng kamag-anak namin. Of course, we can’t just turn them down. We respect what our parents want but if we can have it our way, I and Sarah simply want our close family and close friends to be with us in that special moment.”
He also verified reports about them looking into the possibility of tying the knot in a more romantic setting with the beach as backdrop. “We’re considering either a beach wedding or a mountain wedding in Switzerland. So we’re thinking about it.” It was August of last year when Richard and Sarah announced their engagement through Instagram. In the said post, Sarah happily showed off the engagement ring given by Richard after popping the question in frosty Switzerland.
With fiancée Sarah Lahbati and son Zion
Chances are, you already know by now that the couple has a son named Zion who is turning five next month. Soon, Sarah is about to give birth to another baby boy to be nicknamed Kai.
Richard shared that Zion is more than excited for the birth of his younger brother. “We try to make Zion involved in everything that’s happening in preparation for the coming of his brother,” he said. “Zion was with us during check-ups, in all the ultrasounds, and in all the shopping (of things) for Kai.”
He continued, “We want him to be involved as a kuya, to have a responsibility for his brother para hindi s’ya mainggit o hindi s’ya magiging sad when Kai comes out and for him to embrace brotherhood. So now, every time Zion says good night and I love you, tatlo na kaming sinasabihan n’ya like I love you, dad, mom and Kai.”
What makes Richard a prouder dad these days is the fact that Zion sings well. The boy’s lolo, Eddie Gutierrez, sings a lot to him.
“Yes, he loves singing; he loves music and I guess, he inherited it not from me obviously, hahahaha but from Sarah. My dad sings a lot to him, tapos ‘yung bond nila ng dad ko very strong. Singing is their pastime. They always sing Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra songs. Zion has already memorized a lot of songs.” Thus, Richard and Sarah let Zion attend some voice lessons to hone his talent.
“He’s now into piano lessons because we will support him whatever his passion is,” added Richard.
Before wrapping up the interview, Richard agreed to walk in front of the Golden Mirror for the Mirror Talk:
Describe that young man in the mirror.
“(He’s) Been through a lot of ups and downs, very happy, God-fearing, family first, and, always humble and hungry.”
Ano ang kinatatakutan n’ya?
“Failure — failure to my family and failure as a father.”
If you were to give that man a piece of advice, what would that be?
“Cherish all the positive moments and positive blessings and always put God first in all your decisions.”
