Battle of the calendar girls: Erich Gonzales versus Myrtle Sarrosa

MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN actress Erich Gonzales has just been launched as the Tanduay calendar girl on Wednesday, while barely two weeks ago, actress, cosplayer and University of the Philippines cum laude Myrtle Sarrosa has been introduced as the new calendar girl for Ginebra San Miguel.

Does this mean that the two are now open to sexier roles in movies and television?

“Ako naman ‘pag dumarating sa akin ang project, I take it on as a role so hindi ko sya tinitignan kung sexy ba siya or hindi. Tinitignan ko siya na kung ano ba ‘yung character at kung anong klaseng role ba ‘yung pinoportray ko,” Myrtle said in an interview with the media during the Ginebra event.

The “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4” Big Winner, however, said that she has her limitations.

“As long as may moral ‘yung story, I would always take on the role. Basta ‘wag lang magpakita ng topless or anything.”

In her calendar, Myrtle donned the brand’s iconic angel costume. She also looks out of this world in a cyber chic outfit, and channels an illusionist persona. In some images, she transformed into a forest enchantress, and as the lady boss.

“Gumawa kami ng iba’t ibang unique characters sa bawat brand na meron ang Ginebra. Isa sa pinasikat na ginawa ko is ‘yung si San Miguel mismo, the angel. Bawat brand na meron sila, gumawa kami ng new characters na pwede ko i-cosplay at puwedeng mag-represent ng bawat brand,” she said.

The iconic calendar, which featured Solenn Heussaff, Georgina Wilson, Marian Rivera, Ellen Adarna, Arci Muñoz and Kim Domingo in the past, puts a new flavor in the 2018 edition.

“This one, instead na mag-take off kami ng clothes, nag-put on kami ng iba’t ibang costume. Gusto namin i-bring out 'yung mas millennial ‘feels.’ Kasi usually ine-equate nila 'yung pagiging sexy sa pagiging trashy. So we want to put out na you can be sexy and confident and unique and you can put out new characters,” Myrtle explained.

Myrtle also told the media that she almost quit showbiz. After her graduation, she did not know what to pursue in her life.

“After graduating, unsure ako dun sa darating sa career ko. ‘Di ko alam kung ano ba talaga – kung mag-pursue pa ko ng showbiz kasi after kong grumaduate di ko na alam kung ano ang susunod sa akin. Pero grateful ako na after graduating, pinili ako ng Ginebra,” Myrtle emotionally told members of the media.

Just like the ladies who graced the calendar in the past, Myrtle hopes that this is the start of something good in her career.

“Sana this would open new doors for me in the showbiz world.”
